Surgery 7/29 Got a Boil/Infection???

Recommended Posts

Hello im shceduled for surgery on the 29th. My problem is I have a boil on the underneath side of my breast, had it there before. I am prone to getting boils alot! I heard that a boil is actually an infection...anybody know? If this is true than should I be calling my surgeon to find out if I should be on any antibiotics before surgery or not? I am diabetic..Started taking impact recovery shakes today...Trying to quit smoking as of today also...Grrrrr.... any advice or knowledge would be sooo appreciated. I just thought that maybe it is not that big of a deal I would n ot want them to prolong my surgery, since boils are nothing new to me. :confused2:

Hi Debski,

I'm sorry to hear of your boil. I have a family member who is diabetic, and have had some experience myself. I honestly cant say if there would be a problem, but I'm guessing that this is very common, and diabetes is very common among overweight people. Some have ongoing boils. But yes, you might want to call your doctor. I have my final clearance on tomorrow, and will ask my doctor if there is a general rule.:confused2:

Yes, I would go ahead and call the surgeon to be on the safe side. Does he/she also know that you are a smoker? I've heard that most surgeons want people to be smoke-free at least 3 months before surgery because of the risk of getting pneumonia.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
