Alcohol (Wine) Post Op???

Just curious, i know what the Dr.'s tell you about alcohol consumption and I know about not drinking beer because it's carbonated. What about Wine? My friends mom is a year out and can drink wine like crazy... in fact she drinks wine almost every night with dinner. Anyone else have any input on whether or not you consume wine post op? I'm not talking weeks out or anything, but after a couple months or even a bit longer, have you given wine a shot?

I´d like to know this too. It´s summer days and while I don´t want to spoil the healing process of my surgery, it would be good to know if anyone knows when more or less it´s safe to have a glass of wine.

there's a clip on youtube where a doctor tells a woman who has had the lapband put in and is getting a fill that she shouldn't have alcohol because once the alcohol breaks down in the body it turns to sugar. she also told her that she should wait until she is losing more consistantly to consider having a drink. here's the link. hope this helps!!!

My surgeon, Dr. Fielding @NYU, has had a lapband for 9 years and he told me he has 2 alcoholic drinks everyday... I just would add the calories into my daily caloric total.

I have not had any trouble at all consuming alcohol in moderation. Wine isn't my favorite, but I do drink it occassionally. I love margaritas, but have pretty much stopped drinking them because of the sugar/calorie content. My new favorite drink is crystal light and lime vodka. I do not ever have anything carbonated.

The reason most docs discourage it is because it's empty calories. Also, you will want to be careful because it does affect me differently now that I'm banded, I get tipsy quicker. Good news for hubby because now I'm a cheap date! LOL. I also am very careful not to let it get out of hand because I absolutely do not want to throw up. I don't drink a lot, but I'm not going to live the rest of my life not being able to have a drink with friends if I want. Just my opinion though.

I have only been banded for 5 days.. but my dr says wine is fine.. he did say when I first try it after the band to try just a couple of sips because it can make you drunk very fast with the band. I have family with the band who drink wine all the time also so I never seen it to be a problem. :crying:

I am only 6 days post-op, so I am scared to try any alcohol right now.

But, my mother-in-law has been banded for about a year and a half and she drinks beer, wine, frozen drinks, and doesn't have any problems.

Hello, I just got banded on the 14th and my doctors says not to drink alcohol and carbonated drinks for a month after surgery. I know plenty of people who consume them and had no problems. I hope this helped you!

I have one or two glasses of red wine a week. Yes, wine turns to sugar when you digest it but if you keep track of the calories, it won't sabotage our band. I personally don't have a glass a day because I was taught NO liquid CALORIES,, if possible. but this is LIFE and you cannot deny yourself a treat now and then.

Just basing my info off of what the doctor told the patient in the clip. I don't have the band yet, but from what it sounds like many people do drink at their own discression.

Moderate wine consumption - like one standard unit perhaps five days out of seven is good for your health, that's mainly red wine. White is not quite as good, although it still does have benefits. Its protective of your heart, although that's balanced off against the bad things about alcohol which is why small quantities is a good idea. Its definitely not empty calories though, we've all been told by mum's cardiologist to keep up the habit!

Drinking wine "like crazy" is not a good idea!

At my information session, Prof. O'Brien stated that my clinic's patients who drink moderately and regularly have better weight loss results than non drinkers, but they dont know exactly why.

Personally, I'd have a glass of wine with dinner four or five days a week.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
