Alcohol (Wine) Post Op???

Recommended Posts

My two favs are Cherry Pomegranate and Orange (like tang) Crystal Light w/ lime or cherry vodka (usually w/ a twist of lime for good measure). I've also been known to add a splash of cherry juice or grenadine to the orange one. I would be willing to bet that any of the "fruity" crystal lights would be good. Cheers!

At 12 days post op I had a glass of red wine and it did effect me a little quicker than it used to. As with most items, moderation is the key.

I am almost one month banded and I tried my first glass of wine on Friday...I am not sure why, but it just didn't taste right. Then I bought my own bottle and have had a glass each night since Saturday, just one 4 oz glass and I've tolerated it just fine. I've enjoyed it more than I ever did before. I get my first fill on August 13 and I'm not sure if that will change things..but I've taken the "risk" and it's been just fine. Just be sure to record it as part of your calories!! Good luck

One of my surgeons suggestions for lapband living is NOT to drink wine, but drink beer instead because the carbination will fill you up quicker and you'll drink less and ingest fewer calories.

Had anybody else heard this?

My doctor said the exact opposite about ANY carbonated drinks. They are a definite no-no because of the gas created by the carbonation.

I have had wine and a margarita since surgery and had no problems other than a noticeably lower tolerance than pre-op. I will proceed with caution after my fill though.

Just thought I'd add this snippet - when I was researching whether to have lap band surgery I was checking the research papers written by medical specialists and came across this one - you can read it in full - it dates back to 2001. It supports having a moderate amount of alcohol post lapband. http://www.core.monash.org/assets/documents/research-papers/2001-08.pdf. I live in Australia's Hunter Valley so there's no way I'm giving up our wonderful Semillon - maybe just moderating my intake!

Fuze Slenderize has a Cran-Raspberry that tastes great with Vodka - it's low carb & low cal. I haven't had any alcohol yet since being banded but if I drink with friends at home- that will be my drink of choice.

I was wondering about this subject New years is in a few days and i want to make plans i was hping i could drink i;m 5 weeks post op ANY IDEAS FOR MORE YUNNY DRINKS!!!:)

Although I'm almost 3 weeks post op and have been too scared to try alcohal yet, I did ask my nutristionist and surgeon about bloody mary's (my favorite drink) and they both agreed it was a good drink if I used Spicy V8 because of the nutritional content. They did warn me to be careful though because of the sodium. New Year's here I come, figured I would try my first Bloody Mary then.

I agree with Jachut that red wine is healthy in moderation. I don't drink alcohol anymore but I do take in a light dark grape juice to try and take in some of those same benefits on occasion.

I did get a warning from my doctor that you have to be careful with alcohol intake due to transferring addictions. Some of us are obese due to food addictions or emotional eating, and if we are not careful it might be a little too easy to begin over indulging in alcohol.

However, taken in moderation and considering the calorie content while avoiding carbonation is not a bad way to go.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
