Got my 2nd fill last week, am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I had my surgery on May 12th, 3 weeks later I got my first fill. Last week (07/15) I went in for a 2nd fill. After the fill I was able to drink Water, no problem.

2 days after the fill, food started to get stuck. Actually, Protein Drinks started to get stuck (I used the Ready to Drink, so it's not like there's Protein chunks in it). Puree food started getting stuck.

I only had problem with food getting stuck in the morning and afternoon. Once it's dinner time, I'm fine. I usually get up around 6 AM, and had my dinner at around 7 pm.

This past weekend I woke up a bit later (10 AM). At my usual dinner time, 7PM, I couldn't eat. Well I took a couple of bites of food, then I relocate myself from the dinner table to the restroom. My first heart-to-heart conversation with my Toilet bowl:eek:. I started thinking that could it be possible that my band stays tight about 10-12 hours a day? So around 10PM, I tried to eat, and I was okay.

So my questions are, is this normal? Does your band has a mind of it's own? Is there anyone out there who experienced this time schedule tightness?

I love my band, I'm just trying hard to understand it:confused2:.

Thanks!

Love you all! :crying:

If you are having trouble getting Protein drinks down this far out, it sounds like you are too tight. You have already given it almost a week and if you can only ingest liquids/pureed foods during the majority of the day then I would give your doctor a call.

My boyfriend has had this trouble since his last fill. He thought surely he needed to have some removed. But the nurse told him to drink something hot in the morning as soon as he wakes up. It has worked for him. He can almost always eat fine the rest of the day as long as he starts with something hot. I haven't had that problem yet. Hope this helps.

I also have to drink something warm or hot before a meal. It really works. Try it. If you are still having a hard time, call your dr. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for all the replies! I will give the "hot drink in the morning" a try. If that doesn't work, I'll give my doctor a call.

I know I can always count on my bandster family~!

^_____^

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
