Annie0341 0 Posted July 21, 2008 From a "newbie". I am just beginning-waiting on my seminar 9/4. I am reading a whole lot, very thankful to have found you all. Anyhow, why is bread such a hard to eat post op food? And what are PBs and sliming?? Thanks!
Jodi_620 37 Posted July 21, 2008 My doctor explained the bread thing like this: Take a small piece of bread, ball it up and drop in some Water...what happens? The bread swells. The same thing happens when you eat it, you chew and swallow then it swells in your stomach and gets stuck. Doesn't happen to everyone, I was glad to know that it happens to me because I ate too much bread anyway and can do without those carbs. PB= Productive burping. If you do not eat properly (eat slowly, chew well and stop eating when satisfied) you could "burp the food back up" It is not like your typical throwing up, there is no stomach acid just the food.< /p> Sliming= When you don't eat properly the food gets stuck and your body makes excess phlegm to try to dislodge the food, that phlegm can back up into your mouth. Brandy~ 2 Posted July 21, 2008 Jodi is right about the bread.. I can eat it but it takes some work. I usually just avoid it though. I haven't PB'd or Slimed yet... I think that if you're informed you will be much more careful when you eat so you won't have to experience it. Most people have had atleast a couple episodes though. Guest Leslie2Lose Posted July 21, 2008 I've had the joy of experiencing both and do not recommend them. Both of these can occur if you are too tight. I had too much restriction a couple weeks ago after a fill. I slimed and PB'd on just above everything I ate. The more solid foods got stuck - which hurt like hell! Sometimes even when you're doing what you are supposed to do (eating right, chewing right), if your fill level is off (too full) these things can occor. I had a slight unfill after a week of hell and haven't had any problems. I don't eat white bread (or any bread that is flour/yeast based). I haven't had a problem with corn based breads though. Those are a treat for me (i.e. cornbread/hushpuppies). I also can't eat scrambled eggs - the consistancy causes them to get stuck. I stick to the bandster rules as much as I can. It's trial and error to find out what you can and cannot tolerate. Every bandster is different.
