Hello,

My pre-op is on August 6, 2008. With Christina Richards @ Salt Lake Regional Medical Center and Surgical Weight Loss Center of Utah (anyone have experience with this surgeon?)

I am sceduled to be banded on August 19, 2008. I am so excited!

I know it is going to be a tough road. I was talking with my husband about being ready and he questions my readiness.:confused2: I stopped dieting and excercising 3 months ago just to see if I could maintain with out doing anything! I knew it wouldnt work! I gained 30 pounds in 3 months! I did this to show myself that I really do need to be banded for that added help. Do you think that was stupid of me? I have really let myself go! Sometimes I just get sick of constantly thinking of my weight. I am starting my exercise routine again today~ What else can I do to show my sweetheart I am ready for this surgery?

My mother and sister had gastric bypass 15 years ago. they both look great. my sister has alot of health problems though. I think it was because she had 2 babies after having the surgery. I have watched them through their journey of losing weight and keeping it off. I see it was emotionally hard and I feel it will be emotionally hard for me as well. Who isnt an emotional eater? I am ready to hit that brick wall and face my emotionally eating and change!

I really wanted to get the gastric bypass 15 years ago when my mom and sister did. My Husband was really against the gastirc bypass he has heard too many bad stories. When I heard about the lap band I took my husband with me to a meeting to learn more about it. He felt more comfortable about the lap band than the bypass. So I am finally going to have it done! I cant wait to be Healthy and skinny again.

I went to all my appointments alone and I did my weigh ins threw my 1 month of classes the program required and kept food journals that month. I also did all the other required appointments on my own with in 2 months, did the 10 day pre-opt liquid only diet for surgery with out cheating while they kept eating, and was banded right after that. I think that showed my family I meant business. When I'm feeling low, or want to talk diet and or exercise, I turn here instead of burning them out with the talks of what they don't want to keep hearing. We are here for you! :crying:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
