Hi all!

Saturday night I went to lie down on my bed and felt a strange hurtful pulling feeling on the left side of my stomach. I lay down and got comfortable and didn’t feel it anymore. The next morning I went to stretch and that same area hurt again (it felt like my muscles were being pulled apart). It hurts on and off depending on which way I move. I have discovered to the left side of my port about 1 inch below there is a knot about the size of a lemon. I can feel my port just fine. I automatically thought it was a hernia. The reason I thought that was because when my son was 5, he got into the tub and all the sudden right above his groin looked like a HUGE alien wanted to come out. I took him to the Dr. right away and he had a hernia, and it was removed.

I was banded in May and in late June had to have my appendix removed (the Dr. said that the appendix and lapband were not related, I called BS on that one). So when I felt this feeling over the weekend, I thought sheesh, what else can go wrong??? Since Sunday, more food seems to be getting stuck easier, I don’t know if it is all in my head and I am just not chewing my food enough, or could it be this big huge bulge pushing against my band? I feel like I am getting paranoid, but was just curious if anyone else has had this issue???

I LOVE my band and have lost 26 pounds since my surgery, but my stomach at this point since I have had lapband and then my appendix removed looks like a railroad track! :crying:

Has anyone had this problem? Does it sound like a hernia to you or something else?

I go back to the Dr. on Friday (for my fill follow-up) since I had my first fill two weeks ago, I am up to 4.6cc right now, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem before??

Thanks for your reply...

I have a similiar firmness near my port area and my surgeon said it was a normal part of healing. The band and port are stitched into the muscle tissue and take longer to heal, which can at times cause that sensation of a sharp, pulling, or tugging. He gave me what he referred to as a "low profile" port, which is stitched down deeper into the muscle so it doesn't show through the skin when I lose weight. He said that is what was more than likely causing the pull. He said it would go away in time, but to be careful with my diet and not to do activity that was too strenuous during the healing process.

I hope your Doc gives you some good news and tells you, you have nothing to worry about.

best wishes,

Stephanie

If you have a mass the size of a lemon, why wait for your appointment to speak to your doctor? You should at least give your doctor a call.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
