I just have to thank everyone here for all the support, information, advice, etc. I went to my first of two dietian meeting tonight (this one is a group meeting). Because I have learned so much here, I really felt good about the meeting and truly have a real understanding of the band. There were a couple of people in this group that I just wanted to say, "hey, you need more information to make a sound decision". Only 2 of us are getting the band (the other person is a nurse....that made me feel good!) the rest are getting the bypass surgery. One women asked me and the nurse why we were getting the band instead of the bypass. We then asked her why she was getting the bypass instead of the band. Her answer: Well, I just want to lose weight without all the "fill" stuff and going back and forth to the doctor every month. I pray she gets more information....

Another man said he did not want to "fuss" with pureed foods, etc....he wanted to just drink Protein Shakes until he could do solids.

I wanted to say....people we need to "fuss" and we need to deal with "stuff"....bypass and/or the band is only a tool...this is not magic!

Again, thanks for everything....it is off to the psychologist tomorrow for that appointment!

Great post margo! I feel the same way! I just love this place! And there is so much information here and people give the best advice. Thank god for LBT! And Im happy u have made your decision and feel confidant. I too feel sorry for people getting such a major surgery such as Gastric Bypass who just dont have the info or think that the lap band isnt a tool for someone with a very high BMI. There are so many people here who had very high BMI's and much success with their band. Look at all the famous people who had the Gastric Bypass and have gained so much back already just a few years later and are only headed up. Its sad really.

Just have to update everyone...I am so excited, but kind of nervous now since all my pre-op appointments are over!! I have the letter from my PCP to get to the office, already got a copy of the psycholoist report, and the rest will probably be turned in next week. Then please pray for me that my insurance covers me.

I feel very close to all this happening, but yet not. I am so anxious for a surgery date so I can start my new life.

I never did pureed foods -- went from liquids (for 6 weeks!) to mushies (for about a week) then to solids.

RNY patients had BETTER be seeing their docs regularly too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
