fill diet anyone??

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I go for my very first fill this wednesday and I have a question about my diet BEFORE the fill. I don't remember my doctor saying anything, should I eat like I am now before the fill or should I be on liquids before I get it? If I have something in my stomach, will it effect the band when they fill it? My appt is after lunch so I just wanted to see how all that is going to work.

Thanks for any insight!

Rachel

I did liquids the day of on my own... but dr puts his patients on 2 days liquid, 2 days mushies, 2 days soft foods, then real food again...

I did the same thing I did for my pre-op... 5 Atkins shakes a day plus Water... It helped get me jump started again... I had been stalled for a week... then 3 lbs in one week!!

yay... and now im to real food for the first time since my surgery... Pork loin was GREAT!!

this is very interesting! My doctor never told me what to do. The dietician said 2 days of liquid and then 2 days of mushies and then back to normal foods. She never said to start that morning. I specifically ate some string cheese immediately before going in for my fill that afternoon so I wouldn't be too hungry. I even told my surgeon when I got there and he chuckled. Didn't seem to think it was an issue. Go figure!

That's what I was told to do after a fill also....24 hours of liquids, 24 hours of mushies and then back to solids. I was never told what to do before the fill.

I was just getting on to post the same question. My first fill is Thursday (ahhh...:wink2:...quite nervous) and I didn't know what to eat before. I may call tomorrow to find out what they say. I know I'm on liquids for 24 hours, then mushies for 48. Thanks for the insight everyone!

I asked my dietician today at our support group and she said that I could eat something about 2 hours before the fill, and that was because the food should be digested in 2 hours. Whew! Just in time! I go for my 2nd fill in the morning at 9am!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
