Hi...still researching :D

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I've been learning about the lap band for over a year (been on & off of WW, tracking calories etc, in the meantime...no great results).

I will be self-pay, so I am doing a lot of research on procedures done in Mexico.

I'm 30, a wife to my loving dh for 8 years and mom to 2 wild & crazy kids (a boy-4, and a girl-7). We live in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

I have about 90-100 lbs to lose....been overweight most of my life, been on a diet for the past 10 years. Really wanting the lap band. I'm a healthy eater, but I eat too much! lol

I haven't discussed surgery with my husband yet...I hate taking about my weight. Yesterday my 4 year old compared me to a horse ...the truth sure hurts!

I was shocked when me doctor told me I needed the lapband at my first appointment. I hadn't heard about it before (been out of country for a few years) and it totally scared me. My hubby is very disapproving of my weight so I was even more anxious about telling him. He was so upset he didn't know what to do or say so he found this website and told me to check it out. Since then we have both learned a lot, and been to a seminar together. I read the book "Weightloss Surgery for Dummies" and "Lapband for Life". They were both very informative and helped me understand what was going to happen. Once you get enough information you will know if this is right for you or not. I have been overweight most of my life and the since I had my babies (9years ago) it has only gone up. Good luck to both of you and keep checking the post here and even look into the areas of problems, diet, and post-op forums. They can give you alot of insight also.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
