Middle TN and Centennial Hospital

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been banded from the doctors at Centennial Medical Center? I am strongly considering the LapBand and I know how good the hosital is but wandering about the doctors and the whole procedure. I was scheduled for a seminar last month and chickened out. I am scheduled for the July 29 seminar, hubby is going with me. I have a friend that had this done and really looks good. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions?

:confused2:

Ready,

I have heard good things about the surgeons there. As far as the hospital, it is great (I used to work there). I will ask around for more details and let you know what I find out. Go ahead and go to an informational meeting. You will likely get to hear the surgeon talk and get a feel for what kind of person he/she is.

I am having mine done in Clarksville.

I had also heard great things about their program and I have had friends who had surgery there and loved it. I did go to an informational seminar. The Dr was very knowledgable about the procedure however, I just didn't like his personality. I don't think we would have been a good fit. I am going to Dr Huerta who is in Dickson. He is a very nice soft spoken man. His practice is not as large as the one at Centennial and he is still part of the TRI-Star network of hospitals along with Centennial.

For me personally I wanted the Dr to know me and with Centennial I felt like I was just going to be a number.

Vanderbilt and Baptist also have weight loss surgery clinics as well so you may want to check those out too!

I wish you the best.

I had my surgery on July 10 at Baptist in Nashville. I had never been there before, and I can not say enough wonderful things about their bariatric program. From the office staff, docs, dietitian and including each and every person I dealt with at the hospital (pre-op and op day) it was an outstanding experience.

I'm a former ER nurse so you can guess that it takes a lot to impress me - and I WAS impressed. Consider checking out Baptist Hospital and the Metabolic Surgery Center!

Thanks for the input. I had a friend that had hers done at Baptist by Dr. Spaw. I was actually thinking of using Houston for mine, but I'll check Vanderbilt I didn't realize they had one to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
