Having to sit up to sleep...

Recommended Posts

I take the pain meds, have 12 pillows divided between my backside and my right side and start in my bed in the upright position. Then after I sleep like that for a few hours I slowly remove the pillows from behind me and scooch down my bed until I am comfortable and lying on my back. I sleep with my arms above my head because it feels like I am opening my mid section for less pressure.

Of course today was the first day I could get outta bed on my own, but it wasn't easy - usually my husband has to pull me up and lift me outta bed.

I thought about our recliner, but I was scared I would get stuck, by myself in the living room!!!

I feel your pain. I had my sugery on tues. 7/15/08, and I have had alot of burning and pulling at the port site. I have been sleeping with lots of pillows and praying I don't have to pee in the night because getting up is a challenge. Today was a little better,so hang in there. Thank God you don't have the gas pains-I have been using a heating pad 4 them which has helped. I don't know how to do a ticker, but my name is Angie, I'm a 33 year old mom of 3 243 was my starting weight, I did 2 weeks liquid before and I have lost 14lbs so far!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
