Nervious & Anxious

Recommended Posts

Let me introduce myself, My name is Melanie. I'm scheduled for surgery for Aug. 20th. My good friend & co-worker (not to forget my rock during all of this) is scheduled for Aug. 21st.

I'm anxious for the transformation to begin :wink2:, but I find myself on the emotional rollercoaster. Is this normal?

My last experience with rapid weight loss was during my twenties & the PhenPhen phase. I lost 125 lbs and was within my "ideal weight range" but I looked too skinny & bones showing. :scared2: Needless to say, I did it all for the wrong reasons & was not happy.

Here is my problem ... If I'm not hungry .... I won't eat! That is what scares me the most about going this lap-band procedure and looking "too boney"

I begin my 2 wk pre-op diet on Aug6. Any advice as I struggle to look past my past?

Hi and congrats on your upcoming surgery. It is wonderful that you have a friend going through this with you. This site is wonderful with support but having an actual real-life friend in the same situation is going to be great for both of you.

I don't think you will have a problem looking too bony. Once you get to goal, your doctor can evaluate the Fluid in your band and adjust it if necessary. If you continue to lose after reaching goal, you can have Fluid removed so you will be able to eat more.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
