I am just starting the process with the appointments - feeling a bit overwhelmed. Will probably get banded in September. How is going for those who just had the surgery?

Just take it step by step, day by day. It's great on this side of the fence!! Of course the lap band is just a tool; you must change what you eat and how much you eat radically. Exercise, all that stuff. But it's a fabulous little tool! Good luck!!

I understand how you feel, for the last two month all I did was see doctors but now its all done and my papers are on the way to my insurance company. Hang in there the end result is well worth the time and endless appointments

Three and a half weeks post-banding - it's been really easy going and the weight is dropping off. Feeling like a really good choice. Good luck!

Thank you for the replies to just getting started. I start my apointments Monday with the psych eval. Then in two weeks I see the cardioloogist and have an endoscopy - wait to see what all say and then pick the date. I am concerend about not eating so many of the foods of my life again - can I do it? I worry about stuck food as well...I guess I need to worry less and trust more. I too have been overwieght forever. But I want to be normal or average. And I really want to live life with less joint pain!:scared2: It is good to here from others who are at different stages - God bless y'all!

Hey Dal - my dietitician said that in time most of her banders are able to eat everything they used to eat - but if I can't eat white bread or fresh pineapple again, I'm not worrying, as being thinner and healthier will be worth it. I found the blog written by a Scottish orthopaedic surgeon, Chris Oliver, really reassuring - he was banded last year, and he just seems really sensible and focussed - it's quite inspiring. He seems to have had very few problems - and has lost masses of weight. You can find him at:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
