What are you grateful for?

Recommended Posts

We all use this site to vent about how much weight we aren't losing or how much hassle the insurance companies are but let just reflect on what's going right for a change.

I'll start- I am so grateful for my husband who has been so supportive and who at this point could be the spoke person for the lap band commericals even though he doesn't have one of his own. He even has people he works with coming to our house for to talk wth me about it. (So much for keeping it under wrap!)

I'm lucky my work (I work at a hospital) has a bariactric center inside and our hospital insurance paid all but $250 of my lapband no issues, no letters, no asking. If I had to seek it out myself I don't think I would have. I only investigated lapband because I kept taking care of co-workers on the unit that were getting banded that seemed to weigh less than me and I finally asked one why did you have it done? 2 days later I was in the information meeting. 2 months later I was banded.

I am grateful for a chance at a whole new life. I am grateful that friends and family really supported me doing this surgery and that I got through it and on to reshaping my life. I am grateful that I have been given another chance to change my eating habits and exercise habits and rework my life; that I am alive and well and getting better daily. I am grateful that my diabetes medicine is now a thing of the past and so is the blood pressure medication. I am grateful for how good it makes me feel now when I exercise (the following day, not right away). I am actually even grateful that I have to work at re-doing my life and my eating now and that I am being given yet another chance to be dedicated to myself and make this happen for me.

I AM manifesting a whole new me and for that I AM truly grateful!!

Great thread! I'm thankful for the following:

  • I have lost 50 pounds!
  • My back doesn't really bother me anymore.
  • I can now swim 30 or more laps in the pool! (before I could maybe do 5 or 6 before my legs would start cramping so bad that I couldn't go anymore)
  • I am thankful that my parents and best friend have been there with me every step of the way!
  • I am thankful that I finally got to a point where I was ready for the band!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
