How soon can I go back to school after banding??

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am getting banded in about a month...I am in a full time program for school, and I go 4 days a week, and only have 3 months left and CAN NOT miss any school. I scheduled my procedure on a Wednesday, so that way I only miss one school day. I plan to go back that following Monday. I do sit for about 2 hours at a time, with a 5 min break in the middle, but my day at school is only 5 hours with an hour lunch. Do you think giving myself 4 full days of rest will be enough for me to return to school? If I do, what kind of pain will I experience, if any?

Thanks

I think that is plenty of time. I had surgery on Friday afternoon and was working my full-time job again the following Tuesday.

I think you'll be fine to sit there. You probably won't feel like a very long walk to get there --especially if there is extreme heat. I am day 4 post op, and the heat gives me nausea. I think you'll feel fine--just prepare to feel hungry.

you should be OK- The pain you might have comes from the air they blow in to make your opening bigger leaving gas pouches in your body that need to be worked out. Sometimes they settle in your shoulders and that causes pain when you sit up. Usually by the 4th day if you get one you can wiggle around a bit and move it to a more comfortable area. I had my surgery on Thur and was back to work by Monday morning. A desk job but I could walk around if I needed to. The important thing is to get moving ASAP so that you have most of the air worked out by your first day back. Plan to bring small Snacks too. Baby food or pudding packs work great and travel well. I'm a student also and I can say that there is NOTHING you can eat in the student lunch lines after you get a band. I am in search of the perfect lunch box!

This depends on how hearty or motivated you are in part. I had my surgery Saturday morning and went back to work on the following Tuesday. Looking back, this was a bit soon for me. Five days off would have been more ideal. Mostly I was tired easily. Make life as easy on yourself as possible. Stay on the liquids, don't push the band or stomach to be more normal than a "recovering from major surgery site" is going to be. It's a big deal getting the band done! But it's fast coming back from it compared to any other surgery. Get a foam wedge and sleep on it at night on your back. Use a pillow and hold it against you so you do not bounce when you walk around the house. Sleep extra. Stay on the liquids and take it slow food wise. You can do the school, just know you will need to pamper yourself and not do a single thing extra for about two weeks or so. Good luck!

Thank you for all your information! I have had a laparoscopy before for endometriosis and PCOS so the gas thing I am well aware of...I was painful and sucked! I think I will be okay, but I was curious on what other people did and the outcome. So thank you for your advise!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
