I am craving BLT's. My tomatoes are about to ripen and when checking them today it was lik, "wow I would love a BLT with those fresh tomatoes". well here is the thing, both my husband and I are at the restriction that bread is hard to get down. He suggested toasting the bread extra to make it crunchy (he like things blackened) the only thing is I don't like the bread that toasts to a crisp (the supermarket brand that is thin) it tears my mouth apart and crumbles everywhere. I refuse to by it for DD.

I like the whole grain breads that are heavy (made with whole grain not enriched) and the slices are thicker. I can't figure out how to make it crunchy and still good.

What ideas does anyone have for a substitute? I know BLT's the bacon is not the best but I use the veggie alternative bacon, a healthier choice.

I would make a piece of toast and stack it on top of that, like an open sandwich, I'd eat it with a knife and fork and mainly eat the filling, then a little bit of the bread if I had room/could get it down.

I do eat bread regularly but I often do this becuase I realise what I want is the filling (mine is chicken, avocado, sprouts and salt and pepper, yum!).

yum sounds good. I can't do sliced avocado any more it gets stuck like bananas do but I so want some. I will try an open face sandwich that sounds doable.

thanks

I've had a BLT dip (IIRC, it was crumbled bacon mixed with mayo/sour cream with chopped tomatoes added) that was served on tiny little toast points. You could also maybe do melba toast or other cracker type things.

That is what I am going to do is use lettuce or cucumber or something crunchy as by bread.....MMMM I like the dip thing too, I will try that one since I love taco salads....maybe even put in some ground turkey.....being banded 7/29 looking forward to being a fellow bander and getting the support that I so deserve!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
