Hey guys,

I got bored and angry at some things so I decided to search google for lap band support forums. I found this place and wouldn't mind making some new friends. My name is Daniel Jackson and I am from Stockton, California. My insurance was garbage so I was a cash pay for the surgery ($15,000) My doctor stated that If I did not lose weight soon I would probably live a few more years.

I saw this thing on BBC stating that we will live around 1000 years in like 20-30 more years from now so that kinda pushed me into the surgery. I previously had reconstructive knee surgery back in 1999 but that was not by choice. This is the first real surgery I actually opt'ed for of my free will. I had my Lap Band surgery on the 25'th of June by Dr. Antiono Corin from Modesto California. I don't know if thats his correct name spelling but meh.

My weight at the time I decided I wanted to live and do the surgery was an amazing 506 pounds. I am 6 foot 3 so I carry it pretty well... Anyway, the doctor had me lose 35ish pounds before I could have the surgery which only took me 3 weeks to acomplish. I really wanted to live badly... But yeah, I was around 469 pounds when I had the surgery on the 25'th and now I am down to 449 pounds but I have not had my first tightening yet. That happens in 10 more days on the 27'th.

Anyway, I guess this is me introducing myself to everyone and stuff. I didn't get this fat fast as they say, but over a long time of eating at Carl's Jr and playing MMORPG's on the computer. I do blame myself for my weight problem but I also place some of the blame on the knee surgery which put me bed ridden for over a year. I don't like being stared at by people when I'm standing in line... You know? So many things I could talk about here but this is just a simple introduction so I will cut it right here.

I hope to find a few friends in these forums. And if anyone cares... I will be giving out a few contact names for the console games I play. Since the surgery I have stopped all computer games.

Xbox Live - Densetsu Gokou

Playstation 3 - Tsukayama

Nintendo Wii - Too lazy to go find my friend number...

Aim - Tokyowatcher

MSN - Tokyowatcher@hotmail.com

Anyway, I'm going to go play some call of duty 4 on ps3 if anyone cares to join me hit me up eh?:)

Welcome to bandland. I was banded on June 17th to avoid things like knee replacement, and so far I've lost 50 pounds (25 pre/25 post) and the knees are improving.

Of all your consoles, the only one I have is a Wii. I think Guitar Hero is the only game I can play WiFi though.

I'm still on the computer alot due to online grad. work, but I find my Facebook, Pogo time has really diminished!

Keep up the good work!

Donna

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to LBT. I enjoyed reading your post. I hope you find many friends here. We all could use some support and encouragement. You seem to be doing very well. Congrats on your weight loss.

I have bad knees too. No surgery, but getting this weight off will sure help. When I injured my knees, I was unable to keep up with my exercise routine and the weight just piled on. Even something as simple as walking hurt, so I didn't do it more than I had to outside of work. I am a nurse and on my feet alot, so that was enough for me.

Soon people will be staring at you because you look and feel good about yourself. Be proud you made the decision to take control of your life and really start living.

Best wishes to you.

Stephanie

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
