I was banded a week ago yesterday. I can tell that I am getting hungrier and hungrier as the days pass. I guess that's due to the swelling going down. I am trying to stick to the pureed foods, but has been difficult. I have had a baked potato with chili and some crab meat - of course everything chewed up very well. I am definitely not eating 1/4 of what I ate before.

Laurie - Just keep the faith! This too will pass.

I am 25 lbs down (including the pre-op diet), but now the scale isn't moving. If anyone has any suggestions......let me know.

Hi you guys,

You are very early in your process! I remember the feeling of frustration because I was eating so little, got hungry (about 3 weeks out) and wasn't loosing all that much.

Many wise people out here on the Lap Band site told me to just relax, stick to the diet instructions, and allow my body to heal and the swelling go down before expecting to loose much weight. Without your band being filled, there may not be much restriction, and will get hungry. Also, being of mushie food, it slides through pretty fast, so the pouch gets empty and you get hungry.

Try to increase your Protein - I would add a couple ounces of cooked chicken to the mashed potatoes or whatever else I was eating, and that seemed to "stick" longer. Follow the other band rules like not drinking for 30 min after a meal. Increase fluids. Start some gentle exercise - a nice walk, moving around more then usual to keep your metabolism going.

Good luck...this stage will pass!

Hi Lizalee,

that's really good advice.

I've heard the weight thing will go up and down a bit at the start, while the body is learning how to work with the new band. I think we can expect too much at times and need to remind ourselves that healing takes time. I didn't get this size in a matter of weeks, its not going to go in a matter of weeks either.

Its a life long journey. You'll get there. Now is the time to start allowing yourself to relax a little and enjoy life more.

Hey there. I was banded 4-11-08, I was starving with in days and the liquids werent cutting it so I know how you feel. It sucked and I was hardly losing any weight and was sooooooooooo discouraged. But after my second fill im finally seeing some weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
