I will be banded by him on July 23rd. With the exception of some disorganization in the office, I have been very pleased with my experience. I have a very good basis of knowledge of the healthcare field and I have worked at a major university hospital, therefore I think I am pretty knowledgable about medical issues. I have Dr. Galvani is not the warmest person but I have been impressed by his reputation. I feel that the support staff is very good and kind.

I wanted to add to my reply now that I have undergone surgery. My surgery went great and my recovery is going well. Most importantly, my opinion of Dr. Galvani has improved. He was very supportive and nice after surgery. In fact, I was accompanied by my best friend who is a psychiatrist. She was very impressed with Dr. Galvani's bedside manner and his concern for me after post-op. However, I had a really negative experience with some of the administrative and nursing staff at Day One. One experience which I feel uncomfortable recounting in a public forum is potentially actionable (I am a lawyer). It was so bad that I will be asking to speak to the quality assurance/risk management person when I go for my post-op appointment this Friday. Essentially, what I am saying is that Galvani's skill as a surgeon is most important but other factors should be considered. For now, I will stick to Day One for aftercare but I will remain open to another facility if my concerns are not addressed.

I actually loved my expierence at Day One, I found the staff, nurses and Dr. Galvani to be very helpful and caring. I was impressed with the number of staff that themselves had the band and quit where they were working to come work for day one. I guess I just have had other bad medical expierences and found this one to be amazing compared to that, Dr. Galvani was 100 times better than the last surgeron I had, I find that surgeons usually have terrible bedside manner and I was very pleased and comfortable that he even took the time to come and get me for surgery, to himself roll me down the hall, walk me into the room and be there as I was put under, I think we have to remember that people are people and we all have bad days, I am sorry you had a bad expeierence, its terrible to feel wronged, especially with something as sensitive as this.

Actually, I feel very positive about Galvani and I have said so in my previous posts. Moreover, his wife who is also an MD at Day One is terrific. It is the support staff I am having trouble with. The front desk at the surgery center unit and the nursing staff seem disorganized and understaffed. Without elaborating as I don't want to post sensitive information in a public forum, I had trouble with the billing people. They gave me conflicting information. More importantly, I was essentially harassed and had my privacy and physical space invaded by another patient's support person/friend while recovering. Although one of the nurses told this person that security would be called, the fact that this person was allowed to wander unsupervised and engage in this behavior is really scary.

I have nothing but great things to say about Dr.Galvani. He has really good bedside manners and I love him. I got banded at UIC by him. I've had 3 fills and 1 complete unfill at UIC and am now transfering to DayONe. The last dr who filled me was not Galvani and he filled me way to tight, I couldn't even keep my saliva down. Dr. Galvani's wife unfilled me. She was nice too, but man that hurt. THey have very different ways of doing fills. hopefully everything goes well at Day One. I would hate to have to look for another office. Galvani is the Best!!

I have dealt with Dr. Galvani and have had a very pleasant and professional experience with him. My banding date is Oct. 29th and am very excited and a little nervous. Surgery tends to make me nervous. I'm hoping everything will run smoothly. The staff is somewhat hard to get a hold but that didn't stop me. Persistence is key! lol. One concern I do have is pertaining to support. Does anyone have any info ontheir post-op support system ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
