Any banded type one diabetics out there?

Recommended Posts

My wife is also going through the process of getting the band. She is a type one diabetic and is concerned about hitting a low and not being able to eat or drink what she needs to in order to get her blood sugar levels back up. In the past she generally drinks a couple juice boxes and she is shortly back to normal. We were told after surgery it will take 30 minutes to drink 8 oz. of Water. She is concerned she will not be able to get the sugar she needs fast enough when she hits a low. Also, she is not on a pump.

Are there any other type one diabetics with the band out there? What do you do when you hit a low?

I am a Type 2 Diabetic and I always carry the glucose tablets with me. Since they melt in your melt there should be no problem with them dissolving. Check with your dr and see what he says.

glucose tablets ar ethe way to go I am a type 1 and I but the tablets from sams club I go thru them fast.

I was fine with my counts before during and after surgery

I was able to drink carnation instant like 3 ozs in like 5-10 min

I am on the pump so I did lower my pump rate

I say go for it for it it has made me feel so much better my sugars are so much better in control and my body is so much healthier.

I have been banded for 13 months and I have lost 100lbs I have about 25 more to go SOME DAY

Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
