Shauna80 0 Posted July 17, 2008 Hello, I am researching getting banded and I have started the process for the appropval...I have a few questions about expectations. I work out avidly 4-5 times a week, and I was curious what I can expect in weight loss and how quickly when I get banded? I have about 85-90 pounds to lose, and I am currently at 37% BMI and have other health conditions. What kind of success did you have, and how long has it taken you? I would love any feedback. thanks Shauna:thumbup:
SuzanneG 1 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi Shauna, I am just starting trying to exercise a little. Before band, it did nothing for my weight loss. I hear people all the time say its key, but for me, that was never the case. I leave home at 5am and get back at 7pm. I commute and have a desk job, so exercise is not my friend. I try to take a lap around the building at each bathroom break and I take the stairs except my first trip to the 10th floor with 6 bottles of Water in my pack. LOL Anyway, I just bought a Wii and I'm still trying to get the Fit, but so far I love that. I still don't do it during the week as its all I can do to make dinner, do laundry, pack lunch, and get myself in bed to start it all over again. Bottom line, in 6 months, I've lost 61 pounds by doing nothing more than keeping up with my fills and my followup doctor's appointments. Best of luck to you! areellady 1 Posted July 17, 2008 Well, the thing about the Lapband is you don't really have to exercise to lose. BUT, and this is a big BUT, if you want to feel better physically, look better physically, burn lots of fat while not doing anything, then you need to work out. Muscle is key to looking good. You can take two people who are the same weight and one has not ever exercised and the other does and has lots of lean muscle and who will look better and be thinner??? Your right....the one with muscle. Too many people want a miracle to happen with a band and not have to put any effort into it. Why not be strong and healthy besides being thinner??? HeatherO 7 Posted July 17, 2008 I exercised avidly before banding and I was still overweight. I don't think it really had much of an impact on weight loss for me because I was stilll ingesting more calories then I was burning. I exercise regularly now, usually 4-6 days a week for at least 45 minutes. I think it has helped to keep me losing steadily and I do have some definition in my arms. Sometimes I don't lose weight fast but my clothes sizes are dropping. I bet I would not look the same at all without the exercise to help.
