Undergarments after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm being banded next week in Mexico, so I have to start thinking about packing. I'm just wondering about right after surgery, and the incisions being sore. Is an underwire bra going to be too difficult to wear afterwards? What about pants? What did you all wear the few days following surgery? I have some loose enough (twill) pants, but they do have a button and zipper. Will that get in the way? Should I just plan on some kind of baggy sweatpants the whole time, and a non-underwire bra?

Also, am I going to be able to pick up my luggage in the airport?? Or will I have to have my friend tote mine and hers?

Any tips on what to bring with me? As of now, I have gas-X strips and a heating pad. That's about it. Thanks all!

Those are GREAT questions! I'm being banded in Mexico on Aug 20th. I was planning on my GREAT big panties (the elastic is shot so they barely stay up anyway), a loose fitting sports bra, a baggy tank top and the loosest shorts/capris that I have. I'm going to take my bathing suit top too so I can at least tan a bit on the 2 days following the surgery while we are at the hotel. GOOD THOUGHT on the Gas X stuff too! Never thought of that but I will definitely bring some. Who's doing your surgery? I have Dr. Kuri at Hospital Angeles Tijuana. :cool2:

I just had surgery today. I am in bed in a night gown lol No way I can wear a bra one of my cuts is right at the bra line. I brought a very comfy cotten slip on summer dress. Its great. I am in a hotel tonight because my surgery is out of town but in the US. Anyways I really would say no dont life anything. I need help getting out of bed because It stings the port cut and it actually bleed a lil so now my husband gets me out of bed. :cool2: Im doing great dont worry so will you

I was banded in Mexico and had to deal with traveling after surgery as well. I could wear a bra, but it was a little uncomfortable. I'd suggest wearing one only if you HAVE TO! And yes, big grandma underwear are suggested.

I too had surgery at Hospital Angeles. Great place! I had Dr. Lopez. Good Luck!

I Had surgery in Monterrey Mexico on April 1. I took elastic banded loose soft/cottony clothing. I used a sports bra. Just dont be shy about asking for help with the luggage. Thank God I had my DH with me. My surgeon fixed a hiatle (sp?) hernia when he put the band in. He said it was common in obese people. But then he said not to lift anything more than 20lbs. for the next 6 weeks.

I wore a sports bra for a few days too. I also wore a comfortable yoga type pants for a few days. Panties weren't a problem as the incisions were above it anyway.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
