I'm having my surgery Aug. 6th, and I'm trying to get used to the idea of liquids for a whole two weeks straight. So, I went a whole 24 hours with just shakes and liquids and I was doing fine, I really wasn't even that hungry. But, I got so light headed I felt the I was going to pass out, so I eat feel food and I felt better. Has this ever happened to any of you????

I found a great Protein Drink today at GNC... since I irritated my stoma and my doc put me on Clear Liquids for 3 days, I have to drink it... It's called Isopure an dit has 40 grams of protein... AND ITS CONSIDERED A CLEAR LIQUID! You can use this immediately after surgery... they didn't have this when I had surgery a year ago. I bought Iced Tea flavor, but they also have apple-melon, pineapple-orange-banana, blue berry, etc. They are about $5.00 per bottle (20 oz.).

Hey cutiew/booty: I just got banded yesterday and am feeling pretty decent. I was really scared at the beginning of my liquid diet b/c I know the light headed feeling you are describing. I usually have them at the beginning of any diet. I didn't experience that this time. I just had trouble with feeling like a limp noodle and really tired at times. Make sure you are getting plenty of Protein with each of your three Meal times. Also, my doctor's office had said that if we did get really light-headed we could drink 4-6 oz. of juice (like apple or orange) or have a spoon full of P:cool2:olaner all fruit jelly. I kept those handy just in case, but never needed them thankfully. Best of luck to you -- you are so close to being in bandland!!

Nancy B.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
