Hey Lalaredd, I am 15 days post op and had similar issues. I am no doctor, but at my two week follow up appt. the bariatric nurse said dehydration is a common/serious problem. You MUST drink your 8 cups of Water. Soon as I went home I got in the 8 glasses, and haven't had a headache in 2 days. As far as the hunger, guuurl, that is a mess. I hated it, but when you get to eat mushy food you will feel so much better and fuller. To combat that hunger during the liquid phase I had soupy oatmeal and farina, as well as Tomato Soup and mashed cottage cheese. Hope that helps and you feel better.

I also know how you feel. I don't get the headaches, but I always feel hungry. I drink plenty of Water, but I still get hunger pains. I am 2 weeks post, and I hope it gets better.:biggrin2:

I am 19 days post-op and feel hungry most of the time - I am bad about drinking enough Water but I have almost no restriction so it is easy for me to get food down and my stomach growls all the time even after I have eaten a meal - I get full fast when I eat but about 2 hours later I am hungry again - it is depressing.

That is exactly how I feel. When I eat, I get full quickly. About 2-3 hours later, I am starving. How can the hunger be controled?

I feel so guilty eating now - I am able to eat so much food - I am still not eating what I used to but I wish I would get full faster and feel more restriction. The band is so much less restrictive than I thought it would be. I get my first fill on August 11. Can't wait.

I had my surgery two weeks ago. I find that I don't really get hungry until I eat carbs. If I eat mostly Protein, I just really don't get hungry. Sometimes when I am out and don't have a choice but to eat mashed potatoes or something, then I'm hungry the rest of the day. The next morning I just start with a Protein Shake and then just protein all day.

I was banded 6 days ago and I've had a few headaches that I think are related to either my blood sugar being low (because I'm hardly eating!) or caffeine withdrawal. I got some sugar free coffee candies that have caffeine in them and I have a few of those and it seems to help. Did you drink coffee or tea or caffeinated sodas before your surgery?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
