I was wondering what type of anesthesia was used in the surgeries you all have had. Was it gas or IV? The reason I am asking is because I have had to under go many surgeries, as I was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. I had other surgeries too, but I do remember a certain kind of IV anesthesia that was used and I could actually smell it and taste it when it went into my veins. It was soooo yucky. I was a little kid and STILL remember how it smelled/tasted. I just hope they won't use the same stuff. :frown: Also, how long did the procedure take?

Thank you,

Paulette

Mine was general anesthesia through IV and I didn't feel or taste a thing other than sleepy. I've had about 8 surgeries myself and have had really good luck with most of them.

The lapband surgery is quick, I think it takes 30-45 mins and you are awake and going home or in your room in 4-5 hours total. I have a friend who went to hospital at 6, surgery at 8 and leaving hospital at 12:00 with her hair not even out of place. LOL

It's not bad, the only pain I felt was the gas. You'll read lots about that on the board, it gets us all. Take your meds, WALK, and hug the heating pad.

Best of luck to you!

I had 13 surgeries when I was a child thru teen and I know exactly what you are talking about! The smell, the taste, the vomiting after surgery.........yucky!!!! I can say, I was worried about that with my Band surgery and even mentioned it to my anesthesiologist. Things have come a long way-no smell, no taste and no vomiting. Woke up from surgery with none of that. They did give anti-vomiting meds before and after surgery as well. You shouldn't experience any of the things you did when you were a kid. I was so relieved and had a great experience. Best wishes!

Oh!! This is WONDERFUL news!! I am soooo glad to hear this. I was really apprehensive about it. Funny, the thing I remember the most about the surgeries is the darn anesthetic. Thank you so much for easing my mind!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
