I was wondering if anyone who is 6months or more out from being banded had had their cholestrol(sp?) checked? I have high CHO and very high LDL so I was wondering if anyone had seen a decrease in their levels after being banded. I know they go down alot after RNY but I haven't seen much about aafter banding. Thanks and God bless, Donna

I didn't track my LDL but my Cholesterol went from 220 to 187 within a period of one month. SO yes it goes down drastically. It is all about your diet.

Mine cut in 1/2 after just 2 months -- from almost 300 to 156. Course, I lost alot of weight those 2 months as I was on liquids for 6 weeks.

Losing weight will help your cholesterol IF your cholestrol is high because of the weight. Some people have genetic issues and losing weight will help, but might not get you all the way to where you want to be.

I asked this question a while back, but aimed at more of a CBC - general bloodwork. Some people say every 6 months we should get checked, just to see if we are getting everything we need, and that our levels are in a normal range.

Here's the link so you can read what everyones response was...

I had an entire panel done 6 months after being banded. My cholesterol was never high to begin with but it was still in the perfect zone. Everything else checked out fine too.

I got my band march 18th and my cholesterol was 257 it is down to 177 now. Thats a big drop in a short time. I think you will se a big difference after banding.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
