artsy298 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Hi, I'm just starting the process. Got my ins info in the mail yesterday. Highmark PPO. Yes, they approve it but must have documented 6 month DR supervised diet and exercise program within the last 2 years. Is there any way around this? I'm so disappointed. Thanks :confused2:
zukagirl22 1 Posted July 16, 2008 well i have never heard of anyone getting around it. It's their way of making you jump thru hoops so that you might give up and decide not to have the surgery. it sucks but it goes by faster then you would expect. Don't let them keep you from getting what you want.
artsy298 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Well after spending 2 hours on this site last night I realized most ins co require this. Today I set up an appt for free seminar next week and consult appt for Sept22, 1st opening! Now I have to find out where to go for this diet and excercise program and does my ins cover that. I'm sure the ins co makes it difficult so you will give up. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm glad I found this site.
zukagirl22 1 Posted July 16, 2008 i did my diet program with the people i am geting the surgery with and they made it pretty affordable becaus they new so many people had to do it, i was charged 18$ a visit. my exercise classes were a bit more 45$ for 1 visit and i had to go once a month for 3 months. more expensive but still affordable. And i am sure when you go to the seminar you can ask if they theselves offer any diet or exercise classes.
Brandy~ 2 Posted July 16, 2008 There was no way around the 6 month diet for my insurance. Although I was dissapointed I began the appointments with the dietitian in Oct/07 and then had my surgery in April/08. I was impatient at times but I learned ALOT in those 6 months and I think that helped me to be more prepared for what was gonna happen after the band. libguy2753 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Just be glad you have insurance! I'd gladly go through a 6 month pre-op diet if it meant I wouldn't have to get the financing and pay it off myself. It would make things much easier.
losingjusme 12 Posted July 16, 2008 more than likely no way around it. maybe through your regular doctor? best of luck to you and welcome to LBT.
artsy298 0 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi, found out today that the ins covers part of the exercise program that is set up through the place that does the surgery. I'm wondering how much weight they expect you to lose in the 6 months. My BMI is about 41, it has to be 40 for ins to cover.
