My referral was just put in yesterday. How long does it take from Tricare to approve or disapprove. And to get your date with the doctor. I have already done all tests and have sleep apnea to a slight degree. Any info would be great. Maggie:rolleyes2:

I WAS WONDERING. DOES TRICARE PAY FOR THE WHOLE PROCEDURE? I JUST GOT QUALIFIED AND NOW HAVE TO MEET WITH THE DR. ON FRIDAY. I HAVE TO SEE A PSYCOLOGIST JUST TO MAKE SURE I KNOW OF ALL OF THE RISK AND MY LIFE STYLE AFTER. I HOPE TO GET THE PROCEDURE BEFORE MY HUSBAND DEPLOYS. IF ANYONE CAN, CAN YOU PLEASE GET BACK TO ME. THANKS:thumbup:

I have Tricare Prime, and I had my surgery done at a civilian hospital, and all I had to pay was $25 for a hospital stay co-pay.

Meggers,

Tricare paid for all of mine, I didn't even have a co-pay. Approval happened very quickly...I was shocked how fast it all went.

My husband was deployed when I had to do all the foot work...appointments and all and then he came home just in time for my surgery. He was home for 3 weeks and has deployed again. I can't wait for him to see the new me when he gets back home!

I have Tricare Prime (active duty) and do not have to pay anything. Tricare Prime retirees have co-pays.

I have active duty too, and I still had that one co-pay. I also had to pay that same amount when I had my daughter almost five years ago (I used a civilian hospital then too).

Technically, you shouldn't have a copay TRICARE Cost Share . I am having this done in a civilian hospital, had my daughter in a civilian hospital and another procedure and have never had a copay.

Strange...

my husband retired the end of May, so I was suddenly on Tricare Standard. I was a little concerned, but it doesn't look like it will be that bad.

My hospital bill was $304. That INCLUDES my $150 deductable, since this is literally the first thing we've had done under Standard. I expect my surgeon's fee to be between $150 and $200, and then there will be the anesthestist, too.

This is at a Tricare contract provider for both hospital and surgeon, or it would be more than that.

I was banded Tuesday, July 22.

Depends on whether or not you are Tricare Prime, or Prime Remote. Remote means you are outside the service area of a military facility, so the cost is covered. If you could go to a military hospital and went to a civilian, you would have that expense

Hello,

I'm in Wiesbaden. Sorry I fell off the map here. I wasn't going to do the band but have changed my mind. I turned in my request for approval on Thurs. How long did it take for tricare to approve you and get you in to see Prof. Weiner? I'm hoping before labor day. How long was your liquid diet?

Thanks for any help.

meekie, took about 2 hrs for tri care to approve the consult with dr. weiner. then it took 7 days to approve for actual surgery. he has you stay on a 3 week liquid diet. But be prepared cause i just went yesterday for my month check up and they said that because i lost 21 lbs they will not do an adjust ment and set my next appt at 3 mth check up on sept. 22 If i think i need a fill before then though im sooooo calling them back to beg. Also, i usually have to wait like and hour after myu appt. time to see him, its kinda crazy but still worth it.

I got my date to see Dr. Weiner. It is 11 Aug at 3:00. That is also my son's birthday. I will be doubly happy to get a surgery date that day as well!! What should I expect? Wish me much success!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
