I am having a little issue with my port site, of course, I am a nurse and have been uh, treating myself, ahem. :lovechoc: Anyway last week the scab was catching on my clothes, so I revised it, trimmed it back some ect. Then I got a tiny amount of pus, no big, maybe didn't dry well from the shower, right? Dried it moved on... Last night scab catching again, sigh, I was revising it again and it came up, 1 cm open area at the end of my insicion, scant amount of pus, cleaned with saline, dabbed dry and secured with a butterfly. My follow up is on the 16th. Anyone else had a problem with the larger incisions healing? The three smallest are good.

Ahhh not yet but being that 1cm, does it look like it needs stitching instead of the butterfly? I'd maybe chat with your doc anyway because the infection may need some antibiotics to clear it up even if you are using the saline! I'd call your doc, nurse or not :lovechoc:

Oh you and your logic..... Sigh, sure I can't fix it myself???:lovechoc: I was going to call the Bariatric nurse, she gave me her cell number. Just waiting for a reasonable time. :P As I am nightshift and she is days... Thanks for your input.

Butterflies have been my friend. I'm naturally an impatient healer, so it stands to reason that I've been "helping" the scab on my port incision along. I have had two splits of about the same size as yours. My fluids have been clear, so I've not been worried. After the first botch job, I actually cut just the end of the butterfly off and taped it directly across the incision, stickiness and all! I think that using the butterfly as usual just didn't provide enough tension across the split.

That was my thought. My doc said he used the staples because the stomach needs something more to hold it shut than tapes.

I didn't have to go have my fill undone! I am feeling better. The next morning I felt fine and was able to drink my Protein Shake and Water during the day. Whew! I have been feeling full and have to remind myself to eat.

I started soft food again today and it seems to be going really well! I am glad I didn't have to go back in. I think my tummy was a just a bit tender from being snugged up some more and I had to let it calm down.

That is FABULOUS! I see alot of people who panic after a fill because they have the same issues that you did. Your making it through will encourage us when things get rough! If you are feeling fine and full you are workin'-the-band baby!

I have dissolvable stitches with steri-strips on top. When are these darn steri-strips gonna fall off?

If you scars have already let go of the scabs, you can wash the steristrips off. I'm surprised that they haven't washed off naturally, but you can try to rub them gently with a washcloth. I'm a picker, so they'd probably already be gone! :)

I am really surprised that I felt so much restriction. I have been able to eat about 3/4 to 1 cup a food for each meal. I have to remind myself to eat because I have been full. I thought it would take more fills to have restriction. Oh well, I am lovin' feelin' full.

I wonder if this will be short lived or carry me through to my appt next month? Thanks for the support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
