I am almost 3 weeks post op and I've been having nausea and lightheadedness daily for almost a week now. I wake up in the morning nauseous and throughout the day i get lightheaded. If I do anything around the house or walk too much, i get lightheaded. I feel nauseous after I eat. I haven't thrown up. I take anti-nausea meds when absolutely necessary but those meds have me sleepy within an hour. I mean - if i end up falling asleep, it's like deep, deep sleep! I'm getting enough Protein and calories daily, so I'm not sure what to attribute this to. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. :cursing:

Hey Avon! I am not a doctor, but I am 2 weeks post-op and have had the lightheadedness you spoke of. I went today for my 2 week follow up and mentioned my headaches and weakness and was told I was dehydrated. So, if you can sip, sip, and sip more plain Water I know I am. Also, I was told there is no limit with plain water get 48-64oz or more if you can. Hope you feel better!

I too am three weeks post op and had this problem about a week after surgery. My Physician and the Barriatric Coordinator thought it might be my blood sugar bottoming out and had me drink tea with regular sugar instead of with artificial sweetner. They also said that if it got too bad to open a packet of sugar and put it on my tongue. It seemed to help and I am past that stage so far.

I would definitely check with you Physician to see what he says before doing anything.

I had the lightheadedness too and like chaneljack5, I was dehydrated. For the first three weeks or so, it was hard for me to drink the required amount of Water but when I was finally able to get it down the problem went away.

Hi

I'm nearly 2 weeks post op and last week I had a few days feeling like you. I wondered if I was lacking in nutrients and calories and so upped my intake even though I didnt feel like it and also made myself drink much more Water. It was hard and still is getting 2 litres down me in a day but it did the trick, i think i was dehydrated. I'm sipping out of a water bottle from all day.

Good luck . hope you feel better soon.

Julia

I am 6 weeks out, and I feel nausea probably about 75% of the time. I feel very light headed, to the point I am a afraid to drive. I noticed it really bad and my legs started shaking while I was sitting outside pulling weeds. This might have nothing to do with my surgery, but it is getting a little worry some. I am also amm extremely tired, I could sleep all day. I am drinking 6-8 glasses a day. My food intake is between 600 and 1000 calories a day. Any advice is greatly appreciated, my PCP can not get me in until the 24th of August. So I am trying to Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
