Just wanted to say, No, Im not being banded. I started looking on here for my sister Nikkee31, before she had her surgery. So I linked her here, and she's been here ever since. For some reason I find myself browsing on here( I dont know why)! LOL But its all good though. You guys may remember me from keeping you all updated when she was away w/ her banding. However I enjoy reading new things, so I can help her stay up on what's new, etc. Jus wanted to say hi and I support all you guys on your journey of weight loss.

p.s. I noticed some people asked her about her avitar's and siggy. Hit me up mskaramel2002@yahoo.com for a request.

My sis has done an excellent job with keeping me informed with everything about the band and the success stories of some of you on here. Ash was a bit uneasy about me getting the band and I appreciate her for taking the time to educate herself about it and to see that there was really nothing to worry about.(Smile) She has been on this forum so much that I think she may even be able to perform the surgery. ROFL Just kidding about that, but she really has a lot of knowledge about it. She is my number #1 motivator and I just want to take this time to say THANK YOU ASHLEY for everything. I love u! P.S. She's quite the webdesigner too, if any of you would like a cool avatar or signature she is the BEST. (Smile)

Hi & welcome! It's so refreshing to see the family member of a fellow bandster on here! How cool is that!!!!

Let me just say how awesome I think you are for giving Nikkee the support that she needs right now.

I too am so grateful to my own mother, who not only was the one to suggest WLS to me, but to support me from the beginning to end. She has been to appointments with me, watched my son for me, and has been cheering me on the whole time. All this while she herself struggles with her own weight issues. (She doesn't have a high enough BMI too be banded here in the US, so sadly that isn't an option for her.)

Anyway.....thanks again for being such a wonderful sister. It means the world to us who are struggling to get our weight under control, and who are having to adjust to the new freedoms that we now feel with each melting pound.

YOU ROCK!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
