Have you had any prior experiences with anesthesia? I think its normal to get nervous about the surgery. I know I did. I had two knee surgeries prior to the lapband with no problems with anesthesia and I still worried about it. I'll keep you in my thoughts, let us know how things go. BTW, congratulations on being banded!

I've had several surgeries and I still get a little anxious about the anesthesia.... that's completely natural. I just remind myself that people go under anesthesia every day and my doctor puts people under anesthesia over and over and over every day. You will just take a deep breath and the next thing you'll know, you'll be in the recovery room. It's always a little strange to wake up and realize that life was happening all around you for that hour or so and you were completely unaware!

Best of luck with your surgery, you're on your way!

Like you, I am also nervous. My surgery is Tuesday, and I am scared of being put to sleep. I have had several surgeries, but I have never been put completely under. I don't know if you are a person of faith, but I have really been praying about this. I am at peace with my decision to do this. I am much more scared of being fat for my whole life than being put to sleep for 45 minutes, but I can't help be a little anxious. I will be thinking about you tomorrow. You will be fine. I'm right behind you on Tuesday.

I was freaking out too, had never had surgery before---but it was TOTALLY fine. All of a sudden ---it was so quick--I was asleep. You will be fine, I am sure.

Good luck

Choopie:

You have been more at risk for serious medical issues because of carrying around an extra 100 plus pounds. The percentage of people with issues because of anesthesia are very low. The odds are so with you girl.

Good luck, and go in with a positive attitude that your life is going to improve with your weight loss.

Take care.

Sue

I was banded 2 days ago and being put to sleep was what I worried about the most. Acutally, it was the easiest part. I remember looking at the clock in the OR and the next thing I knew they were waking me up in recovery telling me everything went beautifully. All that worrying was for nothing. I am having to force myself to drink anything. I really am not hugry and I was told this would probably happen. I am going to work a lot harder tomorrow to get all my liquids in. My Dr. recommends 60 - 80 ounces a day. Take care and I am sure all will go well.

I'm having surgery Friday and the anesthesia is my BIGGEST concern. But I've talked to so many people and it's been very reassuring.

My sister was telling me that the anesthesiologist just sits there the whole time to watch YOU. Every vital sign is monitored. You simply go to sleep and wake up banded  They are there to make sure you are completely taken care of.

We'll both be fine :( Let us know how it goes!

yea i have the lord in my heart as my personal savior and i know he wouldn't let me go this far if he didnt have a purpose i also am thinking about the fact that being this heavy is more risky then an hour under anesthesia thanks 4 the support!!

congrats on being banded! I read an idea that might help u 2 get all your fluids in if u have a timer set it to go off every 15 mins and drink an ounce of fluids in the amount of time you are awake roughly 16 hrs u will have consumed the proper amount of liquids needed to saty hydrated godd luck i now u will do better

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
