How many incisions do you have?

Recommended Posts

I was surprised too!!! I was banded the day after you were and I have 5 incisions ..... and they are longer than what I was lead to expect. The good news, if there is any, is I didnt have gas like so many other did after their surgery, so maybe those bigger and more incisions let out the gas afterwards.

Love,

You were smart to be banded at 50lbs instead of waiting until 50 increased to 70 then 90 then 100lbs. I wish I had known about the lapband when I hit 50lbs of excess.

Allyson

I bet a lot of people wish they had done something sooner as well. :cursing:

I only have one incision were my port is. My doctor did my lap a new way. He was trying it out on a couple of his patients. Something about they use some kind of flexable tube to put the tools in and can see everything and move around everywhere. I guess I got lucky with that one. My recover has been good as well.

I have 5 incisions. My surgeon used staples, they are small though. I took the bandages off at 5 days because they were bothering me and now my incisions are itchy and a little sore. Is there anything that can be put on them? Neosporin, etc.? I am going to call Dr. tomorrow, it isn't bad enough to call after hours.

I have 5 incisions. I thought I would only have 3, so I was a bit surprised. The port incision hurts the most. Plus, I'm DYING to pull the steri strips off and see how bad the scarring is. :confused2: Mine are definitely itchy too!

Don't pull tose strips off. They heal really nicely if you don't. I accidentally pulled one off and that scar is a little ugly compared to the rest.

I have 8! When I had my first follow-up visit I asked the surgeon why so many. He said he normally leaves 5. Two of them are extra because he had to reposition two instruments that were getting in the way of each other, and the other was an accidental burn! At least he was honest about it!

I have 5 incisions. One of them is under my sternum and the other 4 are horizontally placed about 4-5 inches about my belly button. My surgeon used dermabond which is a skin adhesive. The worst one is the port incsion, which is about 2-3 inches.

I need to ask my surgeon if there is anything I can put on the incision sites. I am hispanic and anytime I scar it tends to heal darker. I don't want to be left with ugly dark lines across my abdomen. Any suggestions?

thanks,

Stephanie

I noticed your surgery date was close to mine. I was banded on June 27th. How are you liking it so far?

I finally feel great!! Starting to feel 100% like myself again...I think I have a little restriction from the surgery itself (my surgeon doesn't fill during surgery) and I can get full pretty fast.....just staying full for more than 3 hours is tough... I go for hopfully my first fill on the 29th of July.

I hope you are doing great

Stephanie-my RN coordinator has me putting cocoa butter on my scars--she says that can help the scars look better. It's also supposedly good for stretch marks...heaven knows we have plenty of those!:frown:

Thanks for the info. I need all the help with scar healing I can get. My port site looks the worst to me, but it is probably due to the adhesive.

I have 6 scars, and the 5 little ones have all healed great. The one big one has been giving me problems at either end, and developed a "stitch abcess", for which I took antibiotics. Bleah!! It was accidentally loosening that last stitch while cleaning it, and then clipping it, that seems to have done the trick in letting it heal. I've used Neosporin+Pain Relief on the site, and covered it with a non-stick bandage, taped with paper bandage tape. The Neosporin helps heal and minimize scarring, and also protects against infection. My scar does not itch..... but where the tape adheres to the skin, it's broken out a little, but not as much as when I used cloth tape or band-aids. Putting a little lotion on the skin (not on the scars) has felt soothing. I'm just glad that infection is clearing up and finally healing, 5 weeks down the road! :cool2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
