Kentuckiana Girl 3 days post surgery

Recommended Posts

:confused:I am 44 years old and have been wanting to have this surgery for about two years. I did a lot of research and talked with several people who have had the surgery. All were very encouraging and said they did very well and that I wouldn't regret having it done. So I went through ALL of the necessary pre-op test, classes and discussed in thoroughly with my family and friends. Everyone was very supportive. I had my surgery this past Thursday and came home on Friday. I woke up on Saturday morning feeling great and thinkng this is going to be so great. Then the pain hit. I can't seem to figure out what is the right amount of liquid, thin, thick, to comsume to make the burning pit in my stomach go away. I have had diarhea since coming home also. I still think I made the right decision, I just want the pain to go away. My stomach is growling a lot but I can only consume so much liquid. If you have any suggestions, please let me know what they are.

Andrea:

Small sips of liquids frequently should do the trick. Diareah is common because you've probably been on all liquids for a long time.

If they gave you pain medication, take it. If not, take liquid tylenol. I hope that you're taking it easy because you're healing.

sugar free popsicles saved me, and became my new addiction.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm almost one year out and it's hard to even remember the pain because I feel so great now.

Take care.

Sue

Thanks for the encouragement. I haven't taken any pain meds since yesterday afternoon because that is when I started having pain. After the pain med and some blenderized potato Soup (probably too thick). I don't have pain from the incisions just that burning type sensation in my stomach.

You have lost over 100lbs in less than a year.........please share your secrets. I am hoping to be banded Aug 1 and I want to loose 90lbs hopefully within a year. Any advice would be helpful!

I think that exercise has been a key element to my success over the past 15 months. I started a "modified" weight watchers diet 3 months before surgery and lost 37 pounds pre-op. Start now if you're mentally ready.

Find an exercise that you like. I like to walk, but I love to ride my trikke. My MP3 player helps to make the exercise more entertaining and a fast beat keeps me moving faster.

Good luck.

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
