Hello everyone! I'm having the LapBand done, don"t have a date yet. All my preops are done, just waiting to see my surgeon one last time to get the op date. In the beginning I was really excited, I knew this was for me. Lately, I've been hearing alot of stories on how you usually regain the weight within two years or some don't lose weight at all! These stories have been really discouraging and I'm starting to have doubts. Please help, I really need some support.:confused2: Thanks so much.

I'm kind of there with you....

I keep getting people telling me that that gastric sleeve is better because of XYZ yadda yadda yadda.....

but you know what...I keep telling myself....that I chose the band because I don't want to reroute my insides!

AND...it's just a tool, I'm going to have to work at this....I'm going to have to be the one to change my life, I'm the one that's going to make this work. It will work, because I'm determined.

 I know you can do it too :tt1:

Thank you so much. I keep telling myself I did the research and it's for me. I want the weight gone so bad that I know I will have to make it work. Good luck to you. I have TriCare and things have gone by so quickly.

Hi MsNeka,

I'm just starting my process with banding but from all I've read on this site everyone is happy with it and lots have been banded for years so don't concentrate on the negative, I think we still have to use our heads when eating but we're not getting any better the way we are...RIGHT?...I know people that had the Gastric By-Pass that have gained their weight back but if you see what they eat you'd see why. A girl at work had hers By-Pass 2 years ago and she has put on some weight but she Snacks on cheetos and junk, plus she drinks alcohol quite a bit too so there you go...we still have to be sensible when we eat and with the banding we won't be able to eat as much either...think of it that way...how many diets have you been on and when you went back to eating the "Old" way you gained it back? Every one...It's a life changing procedure...so don't concentrate on the negative think POSITIVE!!!...You can do this!!!

I also had the "jitters" right before my surgery. I'm two weeks post-op and feel wonderful. No throwing up, no dumping like a friend of mine that had bypass surgery about 5 years ago. And she's gained a lot of weight back.

I think the lapband surgery is the most SENSIBLE weight loss surgery out there. Nothing is permanently disected, nothing is re-routed.

The lapband is a tool (I'm sure you've read that 100 times or so on here), but it's true. Your appetite is decreased and you take the responsibility to eat the RIGHT things with your decreased appetite.

By the way, mydailyplate.com is a wonderful site to journal your food intake.

I was really wondering what the heck I was doing to myself before surgery, which I think is normal from reading in here. Now, 2 weeks after surgery, I know I've made the right decision.

Good luck!

I know how you guys are feeling.... it's hard not to focus on the negative, and you have to keep in mind that people who are doing great and feeling good don't have the need to come to a message board like this one very often. It's when we're struggling, having doubts, having problems, have questions, etc., that we come here. So you're not seeing a full representation of lap band patients here.

You've probably heard all this before.... but it's true the lap band isn't going to do all the work for you. It just makes it much easier for YOU to do the work you've tried and failed to do before. If you want to lose weight, you will. If you use your lap band tool to help you, you'll lose. If you want to keep eating the way you have been, you will find a way to "eat around" the band, and you won't lose weight. It's as simple as that.

I've only been banded since May 15th but I can tell you it is amazing how much easier the band has made it for me to make healthy choices and the right portion sizes. Most days I don't even think about eating between meals. It just doesn't occur to me. Yes I still have days where my demons come calling to me and I just want to binge.... yesterday was one of those days for me. I thought about it a lot and realized that I wasn't hungry at all, I just wanted to eat because I was bored. It made me realize how all my life I've eaten because I was bored.... eating as entertainment. How boring does that make me? LOL. Anyway even knowing that, it was hard to stay on my plan for the day, but I am half a pound away from losing 40 pounds and I just kept thinking.... I really want to lose that half a pound more than I want to eat.

And like I said, most days aren't like that for me. If you want the band to work for you.... it will. But if you're not ready to make the committment to change your eating habits and follow the bandster rules, you should think about whether this is the right procedure for you at this time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
