I am going for my second fill on June 15th. I had my first fill on 4-8-05 in Mexico, and the Dr. did a barium swallow while he did the fill. The Dr. I am going to says it's just a fill. So, how does he know if he put too much or too little in you without a barium swallow? Just wondering....

My doctor has me drink Water in his presence while he is adjusting the fill, he makes sure that I can drink well, while still having some restriction. Your doctor will know, don't worry. And once you get home you might realize that you have too much or not enough restriction, so sometimes there is a need for adjustment. But I recommend from experience that you treat your fill as if you just had surgery and stay on liquids 2-3 days and then slowy move to mushies, then solids, from experience this is the best thing you can do for yourself after a fill. Trust me, I have learned the hard way. So don't forget.

He will not know exactly how tight he made you without barium or fluoro most US docs give a standard ammount when not using fluoro or barium they like to sneak up on restriction where as Mexico docs are much more agressive and they all use flouro and barium. Since you have had a fill in Mexico and used the barium you will get to see first hand the difference in how it is done. I hope this fill works for you ;)

Fluro doesn't really help them get it right -- how can it? It's a liquid as well. It will help you get a little bit higher without getting you so tight that you can't do liquids, but it won't help you know whether solids will get stuck.

I hope he gets it right! He's 3 hours away! And I WILL be on liquids for 3 days! Last time when I went to Mexico, the Dr. didn't tell us (I met a girl down there who had surgery the day after me) we had to do liquids, and we went to Breakfast the next morning and couldn't eat a thing. I had to go spit it all up, it was terrible! The waitress was insulted that we wern't eating, and we tried to explain why, but she didn't understand.
