swimming pool restriction

Recommended Posts

I did a search but was unable to find an answer, my apologies if this has already been asked.

I plan to ask my surgeon at my pre-op appt, but were any of you told to stay out of swimming pools after the surgery and for how long? The pool is so relaxing to me, that I hope I don't have to stay out too long if any.

Thanks!

Hi,

My surgery sites were healing well and my doctor gave me the go ahead to swim after 10 days.

Hello!

My surgeon requested that I wait three weeks before taking a bath or swimming in a pool! He tends to be very conservative and airs on the side of caution.

I asked this yesterday at my consultation because I too am a big fan of the swimming pool

And my surgeon said to wait 3 weeks to be safe, to make sure everything is healed up properly....

My first apptmt after being released from the hospital was 4 weeks post-op. At that apptmt, my doc said I could swim . .. but then, I hadn't asked him if I could do it any sooner.

Mine said to wait until the scabs came off of the incisions...they used glue on mine. I waited and got clearance to swim at my 2 week post op visit.

Wow, my surgeon must be extremely conservative...I was told no sooner than 6-8 weeks after surgery. I've been counting down with just 9 more days to go!

Two most important things:

1. Make sure your incisions are healed and not infected.

2. Don't overdue the swimming. Listen to your body.

I started about 5wks based on my incisions. No problems. LUV my pool!!

Mine was the same, my incisions had to be completely healed as well. I believe it was about 3 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies! I asked my surgeon yesterday at my pre-op and he said that when he clears me for showers which is usually 1 week post op, I could get in the pool or ocean (no ponds, lakes, etc) to float. No*swimming* till about 3-4 weeks post-op for fear of injuring something in there.

My Doc told me 8 days post op that swimming was ok...

I went in the pool over the weekend and was fine... the scabs are coming off the incision, but they were starting to peel off a little before I went swimming... I guess everybody's doctor is different....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
