Hi all, forgot to introduce myself. I am from the Fort Hood area, married for 45 years to my DH who is retired Army Special Forces out of Fort Bragg, NC but ended up his career here at Fort Hood. We liked it here at the time (1981) and retired here. We have one daughter and three grandchildren. I was banded on July 14th of this year and only regret that I couldn't have done it at a much earlier age. I am in hopes I will get rid of all this extra baggage I have been carrying around for so many years and be able to enjoy traveling again, especially with my grandchildren. I am so glad to find this group. Best of luck to you all.

hey meekie,

i had my lapband done with prof. weiner, and i had a c-section and he did mine no problem. He will tell you though that lap band and americans beacause of the soft food like muffins goes thru the band that it might not be the best choice. Just let himknow its the only one your doing and he has no problemo's with it. I loved his hospital and staff.

Thanks for the info. I'm calling tomorrow to see if they have approved a consult with Weiner. I turned it in a week ago tomorrow. Oh, please let it be ready. I want the band b/c the gbp scares the heck out of me. I've started walking 15 min. in the morning and 15 in the evening like the website suggests. Hopefully, my date will be soon.

I just went to my PCM and asked if he would refer me for it, and he thought it was a great idea and would help me, so I had no problems.

Just go to your PCM and ask for a referral. Tricare will handle it from there and let you know what surgeon you can see. You might want to look into going to a free seminar in your area too.

Whatever,

I would like to say that I had to fight "tooth & nail" to be approved; however, my process was so fast, I could hardly absorb it all. All I really did was explain to my PCM why I wanted the procedure and she agreed that it would be a good thing for me. From start to finish, my whole process was about a month and a half. Now, I do have fibromyalgia, thyroid issues, a bad knee and an embarassingly high BMI of 46. Good luck to you and if you are denied...appeal, appeal, appeal.

I have lost 22 lbs since 31 May...had my surgery on 2 July. My weight is "stuck" on the scale, but my body seems to be melting. Must be the lack of carbs...keep going into ketosis.

What I did was tell my PCP that I was interested in WLS. She took out a paper and went down a list to see if I met the requirements. The first time I asked, my PCP told me I had to try to lose 15-20 lbs to see if I could lose weight. She said I had to come into the clinic and weigh monthly until I met that requirement. Well, I heard from another girl who saw a different doctor that she didn't have to do that so I made an appt with that doctor. That doc went down the list and saw that I met the requirement. She went through my medical record and saw that I my weight was up and down for the past 2 years and said I met all the requirement. I'm more than 100 lbs overweight for my height with no co-morbidity. She immediately gave me the referral to take to tricare. (I'm overseas so that makes a difference with the next step). Tricare told me yesterday that I'm approved to see the WLS surgeon. My first consult is 11 Aug. From there I should get a surgery date soon.

Hope this helps and I wish you much success in your journey.

Hi,

I too just went to the PCM and asked for the referral. That was in May. I received the referral in 2 weeks. I submitted the surgeons paperwork and waited 3 weeks for a reply from them. Then I was able to schedule my consult on July 29. The surgeon's scheduler said that I could expect to hear this coming week regarding surgery approval and have a surgery date in August. Thank you LORD!!!

Hello, all,

My name is Kitty, and have been married to my soldier for 13 years. He has been AD for 16 years, with about a year and a half NG duty while in high school. We are currently stationed at Fort Hood, soon to try to get away from here, my husband isn't fond of the Cavalry way of life. We have been to Fort Campbell (where we met), Hohenfels, Germany, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Babenhausen, Germany. We were supposed to go back to Germany a couple of years ago, but were redirected to Fort Hood, while I like it here (love the weather), my husband does not.

We have one daughter, who just turned 12, and two dogs.

I was banded July 8th and will not get my first fill until the 21st of August. I have been ready for my fill for a while, but my doctor is somewhat conservative in that aspect. He needs to do something though, because I feel as though I can eat this house some times.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
