JamieNP 20 Posted July 15, 2008 HI EVERYONE!! ThatDEgirl: your surgery is coming up! Are you getting nervous? Does anyone know of tricare denying anyone? I am right on the borderline of the 100lb limit (but have 2 cormorbidities) and I am getting anxious about qualifying. I know I have asked this 304 times :biggrin2: but just trying to ease my mind. I can't get this done soon enough! I think I have researched so much I could probably TEACH a class on lapband surgery!!:tongue_smilie:
clayverde 2 Posted July 15, 2008 Hi JWRN - I have only heard of one person with Tricare being denied and I think that you posted there (I can't remember) but here is the link for that thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/pre-operation-lap-band-surgery-questions-answers/68766-tricare-prime-has-denied-me.html But other than that I have only heard good things about Tricare. I know that for myself, the package was submitted on Wednesday, I saw the approval on the website on Thursday and got a call from someone at Tricare on Friday!! The woman who called was even great - she said that she wanted to let me know I was approved, asked if I had any other questions relating to my benefits and the surgery and wished me luck!!:tt1: Given what you said, I don't think you should have a problem with approval - GOOD LUCK!! :tongue_smilie:

I was right on the borderline too, I'm 5'7.5'' and weighed 243 lbs, my BMI was 37.5. I had one co-morbidity. You shouldn't worry about it, I think you'll be fine......I'll keep my fingers crossed for you just in case though!
Choromom 0 Posted July 17, 2008 Yay! A place for military! That's me, too! My husband retired the end of May after 37 years - a combination of full time Army and traditional National Guard. He is a Viet Nam veteran. We were engaged the night before he left for basic training. We have five kids, all married and living nearby. 8 grandkids, and four granddogs! We have been very lucky in that we have stayed in the same area for most of our tour. We were in Texas for language school before Nam, then Maryland after. When he went active duty again, it was as a federal soldier assigned to the Utah National Guard, and we've lived here since our first discharge. I work as an office manager for a small computer software company. I'm being banded on July 22! Can hardly wait!
nelady 10 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi all, I live in New London, CT and my husband is retired Navy (26 years). He was a corpsman on subs. Clay, you probably wouldn't recognize the place! It has changed so much. I have gotten the referral from the PCM and contacted the doctor's office and they sent me the paperwork. I still have to do the nutrition & psych evaluation. I would really like to get out of the 6 month diet thing, but not sure I can. I was under a dietician's care at the navy base for awhile, but it was a couple of years ago. I guess I need to get back to my PCM and get the rest of the appts set up. I keep having second thoughts about this due to the post-op food restrictions. Anyone else do this? Sometimes the thought of never being able to eat/drink certain foods again is daunting. Sounds like most of you had an easy time with Tricare, let's hope it's the same here. Glad to meet you all. clayverde 2 Posted July 17, 2008 Hey Nelady, I haven't been banded yet (only 3 days and a wake up!!) but I will have to day that when I first started this process, I was worried about the "things I'll never eat again" or "only 1/4 cup per meal? Total? Forever??", but I have to say that as I got further along, I realized that I didn't care about that anymore - I am just so sick of feeling this way and living like this with my weight, that even if it means giving it up, I'd rather do that than continue like this. So I think as you pursue this, you may find yourself feeling the same way. I used to smoke and I quit so many times before I was finally able to make it stick. And at first it was because I knew I should, and then it was because I wanted to but I still really enjoyed smoking and then there just came a point that I was sick of it. I hated everything about smoking and was only still smoking because of addiction. And that is when I was finally successful. Now, I did that cold turkey and was able to stick with it. But with our weight, I realized that I was finally ready to really do this and I already knew I couldn't do it on my own. I needed a tool. And here I am - I think that when you feel that way, all the other things become manageable. Those worries don't go away, but they aren't so terrifying anymore. That is just my two cents! Where are you in New London and what subs was your husband on? I am a military brat that went to the ID office to hand over my family dependent ID to get issued my spouse ID! I lived in Norwich my whole life until marriage and went to NFA. And my dad was on subs until he retired, which was about 1992 I want to guess. He was on the Will Rogers and then the George Marshall. Good to hear from someone from my "home"!! Good Luck with everything!!
Insky67 2 Posted July 17, 2008 Hi! I'm an Air Force wife...hubby has been in 13 years this November. We are currently stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida. I LOVE it here! We have moved around a lot these past years...started out in Arizona and moved to Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM, then onto Fairchild AFB Spokane, Wa, Lackland AFB San Antonio, Texas, Beale AFB Northern CA, hubby spent a year in Korea and now we are in Florida. Whew. It's so nice to see all you other Military spouses here...we might end up taking over. LOL. Robin
nelady 10 Posted July 17, 2008 Clay I live just off Ocean Ave about a mile up from Ocean Beach. We have lived in NL for just over 17 years now, but off and on before that. My husband was stationed on the USS Philadelphia, the base hospital, then in Milmed, back to subs on the USS Archerfish, and then to NUMI. Out of all that we were here in SE CT, except for a 2 yr stint in Bremerton, WA. My husband retired in 1996 and went back to college to become an accountant, so we just stayed in the area. Now all our kids live here as well, so we are here permanently. We have 5 kids and 11 grandchildren and except for one grandson who is in Iowa, they all live withing a 15 mile range. That makes for huge family holidays! I made the final step today and made the appt with the PCM to get the final referrals for the psych and dietician, so we'll see how quickly this goes. Good luck on your surgery - not long now! Yvonne
