prolonged swelling or blockage

Recommended Posts

I am new to the lapband online group. Hate to come on with a problem at the beginning, becuase I am doing well so far....until 4 days ago!

My surgery was 5/27, and I guess I was getting a little too spunky, pushing the envelope....maybe even rebellious. anyway, Wednesday morning (7/9) I didn't make my usual Protein shake, instead got a fast food Breakfast sandwich and a smoothie. Major BP with the first two bites (eaten too quickly)---the sandwich went in the trash, but the smoothie was great. However, not enough (good) calories cuz after my walk at 9:30 a.m., I was really shaky. I ate some chunky chicken Soup, then glucerna (protein shake)......then about one hour later, I was still full but decided to have more Soup so I could work-out at lunch.

Major BP again (I think it was a chunk of chicken that did me in), and then I tried a bit of Water to help clear things, and more BP.

I have been unable to eat anything since. On 7/10 I got .5 cc of my 2.5 ccs removed. On 7/11 I had the rest removed. The doctor says that because of the retching, my stomach has swelled, and that is why I can only drink tiny tiny sips of Water or Gatorade. She thinks I will be back to Protein shakes by tomorrow, but I think it won't happen. I think in the past 3 1/2 days, I have had less than 500 calories and no Protein at all. Amazingly, I am not yet dehydrated and have had very little in the way of hunger headaches. I have lost about 6-7 pounds though.... Great weight loss, but I never want to do this again!!!!!!

So, has anyone had such a long period of of swelling or blackage? What helps make it go away?

I appreciate your help!!!

I haven't but it sounds like you definitely did enough damage (swelling wise) to make you suffer for a few days. I would continue to take it easy and stay on liquids until you are sure that you are okay. I assume you will go back to your dr for another fill once you are feeling better. Maybe she can do one under fluruo so you know if there's a problem. It doesn't sound like it to me but more the swelling from throwing up. Good luck.

same plm different tune.

i had gone in 1 week early for refill becausi thought band slipped or leaked.(all of a sudden was eating a lot more). of course the day i went in i couldnt even keep water down. my doc told me i had swelling prob die to excess salt intake (was he watching me eat those chips?????)

he went ahead and filled because he felt salt swelling would go down. that was 7/11 today is7/13 still have not kept anything down.

since i dont know how to burp on command it gets very uncomfortable when i drink even a small amount. medicine does not go down at all.

have tried really really cold and very warm liquids neither helps. even tried liquid ibuprophen (for selling ) but cant keep that down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
