Robert T. Marema M.D. in ST. Augustine, FL

Recommended Posts

Hey there, I had my apt with my primary and he is sending me to DR. Marema in st. augustine, i made a post on here about that and someone said that he wants 5000 upfront and pays you back whatever is left over after the insurance has paid them...what doesnt make sense is i have a 20% copay and if his avg surgery price is 17000 that means i should only have to pay 3400 for my co-pay, and i've also read that he wants 995 on another post for office visits, doesnt make sense since my co-pay for specialist is 25 dollars a visit i'm so confused, i dont think its fair that i have to pay this extra when my insurance is specific in what it covers....and what i have to pay.... any experience with this doctor?

Thanks

Sorry, I dont. I live in Florida and my Doctor was Dr. Cywes in Jacksonville. He is a very good doctore and he lets you know upfront what his costs are.

I'm not an insurance expert, and maybe it varies from state to state, but generally if the provider accepts your insurance, he has to abide by their rules. Perhaps the upfront payment is for self-pay? I would call your insurance company and ask them.

thats what i thought but it looks like lots of doctors want some sort of program fee and other fees as such...

That's true, my doctor charged a $600 program fee that I had to pay half of before my first class. But $5000 is pretty lofty. Again, your insurance company will tell you if he's a provider, and if so, what he can and can't charge you. It'd be worth a call.

Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
