Completely Frustrated!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my first post...I've been looming for about 8 months. I was banded Dec. 21, 2007 and have lost only about 15 lbs. I have had 2 fills, the last one being very tight. I can barely eat in the morning and can hardly handle drinking another Protein Shake. Eating throughout the day is difficult so I tend to eat very little until about 6Pm when I can keep things down. What is up? I know I'm not losing at all because my body thinks it's starving, but I have no energy and am getting very depressed! Does anybody have any ideas for Breakfast? Has anyone read a good book that takes you through an eating regimen? I need direction and a plan...help!!!!!!!!:lol::)

I went through that...couldn't eat all day long then evening came around and ate everything I could get my hands on....especially easy to eat soft/mushies. I ended up getting an unfill. What I would suggest if you don't want to do that just yet is go to completely liquid diet for 3 days and then add mushies. If this doesn't help, see your doctor. You are risking having your band slip as well as your health. They had to take all of my fill out and I gained a bunch of weight waiting until I could get another fill.

I'm trying to...note my signature...the first unfill was because of the not eat all day...but gorge all night. I didn't know about "starting over"(follow the procedure for your given procedures for after surgery or after a fill). That might of helped if I had followed it. But I kept irritating it with food. You might also just have too much there are some of us who just don't need a lot of fill. I know down at 1.0 I was having bad acid reflux keeping me up all night...I did everything except the start over thing until all tests were exhausted...but by then it obvious I needed an unfill and rest. I am trying to do things right this time....I just had my second fill Thursday. However, today I begin to go to mushies...so I am not on solid food yet.

I totally understand what you are going through. My second fill I went from 6.5 to 9.5 in a 10cc band. I knew I couldnt continue that way so I deflated to 9.0- I have been that way for about a month but I am scheduled to go back in on Friday and deflate some more because I am MISERABLE. I am basically limited to Soups and somethimes a very mashed baked potato- and this is basically in the evening. I skip breakfast now because I do not want to deal with the after effects. I have lost 20 pounds in that month but its not worth it to me. I am going to deflate to 8.0 ccs and see if this will allow me to be able to eat some solids without the horrible "after effects". It sounds like you may need a partial deflate- just a little to help you along. In the meantime I would opt for soups, creamy soups are my favorite, mashed potatoes or mashed baked potatoes, watery oatmeal, and of course there is always yogurt. Oh sometimes I can eat a little chilie at night. But definately talk to your doctor about deflating jut a tiny bit. We should be limited with what we eat but not completely restricted. Good Luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
