Liquid Diet Pre Op Pain in stomach

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have been on liquids now for 7 days and I have bad bad pain in my stomach.. I have followed my liquid diet 100 % so today the pain in my stomach was so bad I thought I should try to eat something.. well when I did I threw up and there was alot of slime? mucus? I dont know is this normal to have this pain from not eating? Is it normal to throw up when you try to eat something? I have never went without eating for this long before. I get my band on the 16th. Its not a hunger pain or an acid pain its an actual hurting pain. Thanks for any info :)

OMG! Emily, I want to know how you are doing. What are you drinking exactly for your preop? It's been several hours since you posted. I start my Liquid Protein diet tomorrow. It almost sounds like you have some other issue going on. Either that or you are horribly constipated. Any news yet?

well I dont know whats going on... on the ninth I had all my testing so I am fine 100 % its just very strange and I really dont want to call my surgery center because I dont want to have my surgery pushed off I just really was curious if anyone else had the same problem. I will see on monday how I feel. But I know I am not consipated because I have not eaten in 7 days. I am drinking Protein Water and Atkins honestly I dont like much else so I thought maybe because I am consuming so little I was having the pain. I dont know.

Hi there, your pain might be something else entirely unrelated to your liquid diet - appendix, gall bladder or something. It could also be Constipation or bowel obstruction. I don't want to be a panic merchant but you've got to consider that it's unlikely just to be lack of food I think.

Hope it works out soon

Mel

no expert here...but i think you need to call your Dr on Monday. Sure if they find something wrong, it would be a bummer to have to push back your surgery, but if you ignore an underlying medical problem it could mean a lot more bigger bummers for the future of your health! Plus, it could be nothing, and finding out from your medical professional will put your mind at ease...it's never good to have added stress when you are preparing for a major medical procedure!

I noticed the next day I didnt take it and I was fine so I asked the dr and he said to quit taking it and no more pain :crying:

Emily, that's great! At least you figured out what it was and it wasn't serious.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
