Good Morning! I have my lapband procedure scheduled in Juarez, Mexico on 7.15.2008; 3 days from today. I researched all of Dallas, and the prices were from $12,500 to $22,500. I have researched a wonderful facility in Juarez, having the head surgeon doing the procedure for $7000. I did not go into this blindly - believe me. My husband and I went to several seminars. I am only 40 pounds overweight, and now there are many clinics in Dallas that will perform the surgery if you are moderately overweight, but for $22,500 I thought that was an astronomical amount!

Have any of ya'll had a similar experience? I will be picked up by a driver and taken directly to the the main hospital (8 months old), and have the necessary tests and surgery that day. They have sent volumes of information. (By the way, I checked out several references of patients that had used the doctor I am using - all GLOWING references, I might add. I would have preferred Dallas, but the cost was prohibitive.

I'm being banded also on 7/15/08! Hope your doing well with your pre-opt diet. I'm on my 8th day of liquids and I can't wait for this stage to be over. If my insurance didn't cover the procedure I'd definitely look into Mexico. I see lots of people here have had great results going there as long as they find a place here local to them that will do the fills. Keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
