Thanks! I am going to the Obesity Center in Washington DC. Dr. Moazzez. When I went I actually saw someone else I knew that lived down the street. It's the only center in DC that is designated as a center of excellence.

Hello fellow Marylanders.

I have Aetna open access. Hopefully they approve me. I know I qualify and I just need to have confidence which is hard to come by these days. I have my first nutritionist appointment on Aug. 13. I guess I'll find out then when I should start having tests... I'm crossing my fingers that the 3 months go by quickly. I've been reading and am getting more excited!!

Hello everyone! I am a fellow Marylander but in Western Maryland and I went with Dr. Gorman's office in Chambersburg, PA. He is with the Bariatric Group there.

I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday 8/28! What an exciting time after going through the 6 month process with Aetna! Glad to finally be here with just a few days to go.

I have started my 5 day fast to prepare for surgery. Tough, but definitely worth it!

Hi All, I'm planning on getting banded but I don't know if I'll be accepted. I'm 5 ft. 4 in. and 215 lbs. I have arthritis. My hips kill me when I try to walk a lot. And my knees give me a fit. I'm going to go to a seminar at Harford Memorial with Dr. McKenna. Has anyone had Dr. McKenna and how did it go?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
