I've heard many time on here that the dr wants you to stop taking all hormones does the depo shot count I could understand BCP but Depo is kinda hard to get out of your system it's meant to last 3 months... has anyones dr mentioned that they need to get off of it before the surgery and if so how long did you have to be off of it before you could have the surgery? Thanks!

I was taking Depo shots and I had to stop. I got one in January and was supposed to get my next one in April, but I started the process of getting banded in February and I found out that I needed to stop taking them, so I did. I got banded on June 12th and I haven't started them back yet.

I think you should be okay as long as you haven't had one for at least three or four months, but I'm no doctor so you should probably talk to yours about it just to be sure.

I am on BC, Nuva Ring actually, and I was told to USE it because I can't get pregnant for a year after surgery... I've never heard NOT using BC...

Good luck with getting off that horrible shot!!! I had gotten one shot and then decided that I didn't want it anymore...and I bled for 10 months straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really messed up my body!!!! My best advice would be to stay the hell away from that shot if at all possible!!!!!

I was told I could keep getting my shots, the reason they want you to stop is because of blood clots, but my doctor gives everyone Heparin (sp?) to prevent clots, so the birth control didn't matter. It really varies depending on your doctor, just ask them at your appointment.

You sound like my best friend....I loved the shots so much that she started taking them, but she hated them and had double the periods whereas I had none, and they gave her headaches and made her nauseous. I'd been taking them for three years when I got the last one in January. My surgeon wanted me off of them. I was a little worried about what would happen when I stopped taking them, but I have a light period every month for about five days, so I guess my body just tolerated it well. I'm going next week to get back on something (my surgeon wanted two weeks hormone free before surgery and four weeks after), I think I want to try something different just because I was on the shots and didn't have periods for so long.

Like Angelyco said above, every doctor is different. Mine gives everyone seven days of self-injected blood thinner after surgery and still made me go off of the shots.

You'll definitely need to talk to your doctor about it.

I have the implanon, which is a three-year hormonal birth control implant. It couldn't be removed for surgery. They were NOT happy about that because of the clot concerns. They gave me ten days of Lovenox instead of the seven they give most patients.

Ask your surgeon, make sure they know everything you're on, and they'll advise.

I would ask your doc and see what they recommend. I was on Depo for 2 years and when I took my last shot it took almost two years for me to get pregnant with my son. My doc said the longer you have been on it, the longer it takes to get out of your system.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
