Drinking and Eating...FAILURE!

Recommended Posts

Hi Banders...

I am feeling like a failure because I am 8 months post op and have only lost 19.5kgs. I know why I haven't, I drink so I am no doubt washing it all down and making more room to eat right??

Any recommendations on stopping this?? I am getting tightened in a month and hoping this might help...

Hi teeny83,

Have you had any fills since your op? I know that John my husband still drinks Water with his meals and he has lost a bit of weight. Saying that he has slowed down now on his weight loss and he is going for another fill on the 31st July. The doc told him that he would recognise when he needed a fill as he would start eating more and not lose weight so quickly.

I know he finds it hard not to drink liquids when he has a meal as he has always done that and over 40years of a habit it is hard to break.

Hopefully once you get your fill you can start to lose a bit more weight.

Sam

As another slow-ish loser my first piece of advice would be to not be so hard on yourself. You have lost almost TWENTY kilos....fantastic!!!!! Try not to compare yourself to others on the boards as I know that can be a fast way for me to feel as if I am the slowest loser in the entire history of the band.

Did you get an information booklet when you got your band? I was told not to drink for 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after each meal....and yes, drinking can wash the food through so you don't feel full so quickly.

all the best and again congratulations on your weight loss.

Thanks for the words of encouragement...and I think thats true that I need to stop comparing myself!!

I am due for a fill but seeing as I was going overseas I am putting it off until when I get home.

I have tried in the last couple days the no drinking...or even tiny tiny sips and its working for me already!! Haven't jumped on the scales but I can handle the lack of fluids...

Thanks again!!

I hope you can soon seen the plus side of your loss :frown:

I was very strict with drinking for the first six months, and it was difficult. Then I asked the Doc for a 1/2 fill (no. 3) just to top up a bit as felt my portions will a little large and I wanted a bit more control.

It was this the re-started my drinking - I have found so much discomfort that I have many things getting stuck, which didn't without that fill. So this Fluid eleviates this problem for me. Of course I haven't lost weight either. I have had to virtually give up salads, even before the cold weather, a fine excuse.

However, was able to eat lots of crunchy stuff prior to this - I don't even attempt cucumber and apples these days, so at my next visit I am going to get the 1/2 fill out, and try and resume my non-drinking with meals again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
