Eating In the Real World

Recommended Posts

Hi!

This is my first post, so I apologize if it is confusing. I have not yet had surgery but I will at the end of this month. I was wondering what you guys take for lunch? I'll be in school full time and I was trying to think of things I could take with me to eat. Any ideas? Hard boiled eggs? slices of meat and veggies?

thank for your help!!

Allison

Those sound like good options if you have a cooler to take them in. You could also take fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers and salads in a cooler.

I can eat bread still! So I can always take a sandwich. But I dont eat the crusts anymore, lol. I usually elect to pack some sort of crispbread with something like vegemite (I'm an Aussie!) or Peanut Butter or cheese and some fruit. Its easy, quick and quite filling and doesnt go too yuck out of the fridge.

lunch is hard for me now too because I don't eat bread and bread is just so darn convenient...I am trying to stay very low carb so I haven't even tried to see if I can tolerate it yet.

My favorite lunch is salad with meat and a little cheese or boiled egg. Salads are healthy, filling and versatile...you can switch up with different meats, veggies and dressings so you won't get bored. I also like those Starkist tuna Creations, I keep them at my desk for a convenient Protein meal.

I keep a box of Protein Bars in my desk in case I get hungry before or after lunch, I normally will only it 1/2 of a bar at a time.

I most often take Smart Ones Weight Watchers frozen meal to have for lunch.......they are cheap to buy $1.76 at Walmart where I live and they taste good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
