Hello all!

I've been lurking around a bit for the past few weeks. I didn't want to join before I got the good news! Today Dr. Smith here in Ft. Worth agreed to do our Lap Band! :biggrin2:

We actually were able to get all our appointments out of the way today. Surgeon, psych, dietitian, and pre-op education! August 7th is the big date for both of us! We're self pay, so they got us in really quick. I couldn't be more thrilled and I think he is too, but he's trying to be macho about it!

We both have a lot of weight to lose...over 200lbs a piece. Are there many here who have lost that much or are on their way? I'm actually more nervous about the after-skin than the actual procedure...I just Googled my way to terrified by looking up pictures.

My goal is to lose enough weight to look beautiful in a wedding dress. We've been engaged for a year and a half and the weight is what has made me keep putting it off.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi! Hope everyone is doing well!

Welcome and Congrats on your surgery date!! -

I am a patient of Dr. Smith's partner, Dr. Ferrara. I was in the office today for a fill. I was banded a little over 6 months ago, at the end of Dec 07, as of today the scales are showing 92 pounds gone!!!!! I have about 40 to 50 to go. I hope to make that by my anniversary date.

The important thing to remember is to exercise while losing weight, this will help with the loose skin. I am doing a program called TTapp, she has a program called CRT, it is to help your skin, tighten and tone while losing weight and inches. check it out on the web, www.ttapp.com, it can be a bit high on the prices for the program, but it works, if you put a little bit of effort behind it. I have not only lost 92 pounds, but since March I have lost over 40 inches (from all over body measurements)

Good Luck and Best Wishes on your journey to bandland. Feel free to contact me with questions!!

Congratulations! It's wonderful that the two of you are going to embark on this journey together. You've come to the right place for support and information.

None of us are thrilled at the idea of saggy skin but hey, if I have to choose between staying fat or having some extra skin, guess which one I've chosen?? I wish you all the best of luck and look forward to sharing in your journey.

Thank you both for the warm welcomes!

I'll definitely look at the TTapp program. 92 lbs in 6 months is amazing! Congrats!

And I agree about the skin issue. I'd rather be HEALTHY with excess skin than stay this weight and be unhealthy. I just have a way of Googling and discovering the worse case scenarios on any subject and getting nervous! It's a bad, bad habit! Haha!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
